The Missing Piece in Your Conversion Strategy

Published on Wealthy Affiliate — a platform for building real online businesses with modern training and AI.
I see many questions from new joiners, whether it’s how to earn X amount in 30 days, how to earn commissions, what is this platform about, and so on, without taking the Core Training. Many of these answers are in the Core Training classes, but jumping straight to the earning part is like driving a car without wheels or a steering wheel.
Even though I’m a long-time WA member, I’ve spent the last two weeks rewatching the Core Training. Was it a waste of time? Absolutely not. What puzzled me, though, is the low percentage of new members taking the Core Training.
The Core Training teaches you how to choose your niche, build your website, create content, set up social accounts, and share your content. But that’s not all, ask yourself why, and most importantly, for whom you are building a website.
The essence of the Core Training, and everything taught inside WA, is to turn visitors into prospects.
Let's Get Started
Getting traffic to your website it's a big step forward, but traffic alone doesn’t grow your business.
If visitors land on your site and leave without taking action, you’re missing the real opportunity: turning those visitors into prospects.
What actually makes the difference it’s not just more content or more traffic. It’s the right marketing activities, aligned with what your audience needs at the right moment.
Understanding the Visitor → Prospect Journey
You need to understand the difference:
- A visitor is someone browsing your content
- A prospect is someone who has shown interest: subscribe (shared their email), clicked a CTA, signed up, etc.
Keep in mind that not every visitor is ready to convert.
Your job isn’t to push everyone to take action immediately but to guide the right people toward the next step, based on their intent. Watch Jay's series https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/classes/series/understanding-platform-audiences
Marketing Activities That Drive Conversions
1. Creating Intent-Driven Content
Everything starts with content, but not just any content.
High-converting content is built around:
- Real search intent
- Specific problems
- Clear solutions
Instead of writing broad topics, focus on what your audience is actively searching for.
For example:
- “How to fix slow website speed” converts better than “Website tips”
- “Best tools for Pinterest growth” attracts more qualified visitors than “Social media tools”
When your content matches intent, you’re already halfway to conversion.
2. Lead Magnets That Provide Real Value
Once you have the right traffic, you need a reason for visitors to stay connected.
That’s where lead magnets come in.
Effective lead magnets:
- Solve a specific problem
- Are easy to consume
- Deliver immediate value
Examples include:
- Checklists
- Templates
- Guides
- Mini-courses

If your blog post is about SEO, your lead magnet should expand on that topic, not introduce something unrelated.
3. Optimized Landing Pages
A visitor doesn’t convert just because you offer something, they convert because it’s presented clearly.
High-converting landing pages focus on:
- One goal
- Clear, benefit-driven headlines
- Simple forms
- Strong call-to-action
Add elements like testimonials or results can increase trust and conversions.
4. Email Capture and Nurture
Capturing emails is just the beginning.
What really turns visitors into prospects is what happens next.
A simple email flow can:
- Introduce your brand
- Provide additional value
- Build trust over time
- Guide users toward a decision
This is where many people leave money on the table: they collect emails but don’t nurture the relationship.
5. Strong Calls-to-Action (CTAs)
A lot of content underperforms for one simple reason: it doesn’t clearly tell the reader what to do next.
Your CTAs should be:
- Clear (“Download the checklist”, not “Click here”)
- Relevant to the content
- Easy to find
Place them naturally throughout your content.
6. Retargeting Visitors
Most visitors won’t convert on their first visit.
That doesn’t mean they’re not interested.
Retargeting allows you to:
- Bring visitors back
- Show relevant offers
- Stay top of mind
Whether through ads or email reminders, this step can significantly improve your conversion rate.
7. Building Trust with Social Proof
People don’t convert just because something looks good, they convert because they trust it.
That’s where social proof plays a role:
- Testimonials
- Case studies
- Results and data
Even simple proof like “used by 1,000+ users” can increase the chances to convert the visitor.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Even with the right strategies, a few mistakes can block conversions:
- Focusing on traffic instead of quality
- Weak or unclear CTAs
- Offering too much too soon
- Ignoring mobile experience
- Not testing and improving
Measuring What Works
To improve conversions, you need to track what’s happening.
Key metrics to monitor:
- Conversion rate
- Bounce rate
- Time on page
- Click-through rates
Testing different versions of headlines, CTAs, or layouts can quickly show what works best.
Over To You
From my experience, the biggest shift happens when you stop focusing on traffic and start focusing on what your visitors actually need.
When your marketing activities are aligned with intent and built around real value, conversions will happen naturally.
You don’t need to implement everything at once.
One step at a time: improve one landing page, refine one CTA, or align one piece of content with intent.
What’s currently working for you when it comes to converting visitors into prospects?
And where do you feel things are falling short?
I’d love to hear your experience.
Best,
Maria
