WA Members: Beware, Panda 4.1: Important Warnings to Consider

Several members mentioned noticeable changes in site traffic levels… suddenly changing direction. Also, somewhat new members (4 months and up) expressed having difficulty getting any traffic and/or gaining traction. I also found this to be the case with some acquaintances at G+.

I looked at many of their sites. They were a mixture of good and weak sites. Most were needing a few obvious tweaks, which is normal. The sudden change in traffic, was more than what I normally see when looking at sites for those that are seeking guidance. So, I decided to explore the possibilities of what might be going on. I have been reading and searching for possible causes and solutions since yesterday. My search kept taking me to one subject, Panda 4.1.

I have now read more articles than I care to count. I found an article titled Panda 4.1 Analysis and Findings from a very reliable source (Glen Gabe- GSQi & Columnist @ Search Engine Watch) that summarizes the issues experienced and some that may be still be ahead for many websites. If your sites have any of the characteristics pointed out in the article you will find below, you may want to change them. Even if your site has not yet been hit, it is a fact that Panda is not done yet. So, read the article and decide what you need to do to fix your site. Hint: I have seen many sites trying to place ads, pop-ups and affiliate links above the fold on their home page. No one wants to be greeted with in your face Ads before they know they have found the solution to their search. Unless you like high bounce rates, I suggest you read the article. You will discover many reasons not to put ads & links where they don't belong.

In summary, these changes in the Panda algorithm will actually work to the advantage of small and medium businesses if they simply produce quality original content + simple navigation & great user experience = success.
