Hi eveyone! Luis here from Riviera Maya in Mexico. Just wanted to share a few thoughts in regards to my journey thus far, here at the WA.

Let's see...it's been 3 months now since I first began my site in the website builder. And although it's been snail pace to get traffic going, it was my first accomplishment. I never had a website until then. That felt pretty awesome! (It was indexed soon after and one my pages appeared for a short time on page one of Google).

I have been dutiful following Kyle's lessons and also attending Jay's friday video lessons as much as possible. In my learning experience with other education platforms, only the WA and the community here have allowed me to learn so much in so little time.

However, it hasn't all been easy. And that's what I wish to share with new community members who just signed up with the WA. These are some of the challenges that I have experienced as a newbie here. Be aware of them:

1. Isolation.

Starting a business, any business, carries a certain amount of isolation. After all, you have an idea and many will not share, nor understand your idea. You have to live with that and, eventually, find like minded individuals who do understand and share your idea and vision. Isolation is even more present as an on-line entrepeneur. It's you, your PC (or laptop) and the internet. And that's it. You need to find a community who can help you get over the challenges that you will inevitably encounter along the way. The community here is great, but you can look for other sources of support. Listen to podcasts that have to do with your area of interest. Join groups in Facebook, Twitter or Google+. Bottom line, don't go at it alone. You need the support of others to get through the road blocks ahead.

2. Fear to ask questions.

No question is stupid or silly. Remember that all here, even Kyle, Carson or Jay, started knowing nothing about on-line business and marketing. Do not be afraid to ask and share your doubts with the WA comunity. I guarantee you will get an anwer, a tip, advice, or council in the very short term (sometimes almost immediately). Use this resource. If, however, you do not get answer, try again with another community member, or use the chatbox. In my experience, yes, it was a little dissapointing not hearing from the perosn who got me in to the WA. I really thought she could be my mentor throughout this journey. It doesn't matter. There are plenty other community members that are willing to listen and help you out, Just take the initiative and contact them. If they don't anwer, try another member, Someone will be there for you to help answer your questions. Guaranteed!

3. Community involvement.

This is a challenge and weighs heavily on your rank here at the WA. A few weeks back, a new algorithm was set loose and changed the ranking critera for all the WA community. This really freaked out some members, some going as far as leaving the community altogether. Yes, it was not fun seeing (as was my case), my rank dropping from 838 to 5209. But it was announced with anticipation, so I knew it would happen soon. However, I was really surprised at the rank drop, as many others probably were, but I have to confess that I had not been very involved with the community as of late, in particular in paying it forward, which is an essential pillar of how the community works here at the WA. I could give reasons like work, coming home late, high season hitting Cancun, etc. But the fact is that the more involved you are with the community, the better off your ranking. That's just how things are set up here. As much as possible, try to be active in the community.

So there it is. Three challenges that new community members will face in the coming months of their own personal journey, here at the WA.

Listen, this is for you guys and gals who just started today. During your time at the WA, you will start hearing about on-line celebrities who have had incredible success as on-line entrepeneurs. Sure, Kyle, Carson and Jay among them.

But also people like Ray Edwards, Pat Flynn, Michael Stelzner, Mark Mason and so many others.

I have been listening to their podcasts, learning valuable lessons on how to become a succesful internet business owner. And you know what they all have in common? The time it took them to become succesful. In average, from ground zero to awesome income owners: 4 to 5 years. 4 to 5 years! It's like going to college again.

But take heart. If you commit to your dream and have clear what you are here to do, at the end, you are will not only be financially independent. You will also come out as a different person, with habits and mindset of a true entrepeneur.

So don't become dissapointed if you hit a few road blocks after 3 months of starting your project...or at the 6 month or 12 month mark. There will always be walls to punch through. It's part of what sets us apart from the rest of the crowd. Remember: new levels, new devils, always there to challenge you. Face them and you will come out stronger, more skilled and wiser.

Hi Carol!

Thanks a lot! Means a lot to me that you find this a well written piece. I have been doing all I can to improve my writing skills since good copy is so important to get your message through to your readers. Thanks again!

Take your time, Luis :) Get it right the first time. Carol

Thanks for writing this. I've been a member for a little more than two and half years. I almost quit after the first 3 months because I wasn't making any money. It was in that third month that I made two very small sales in spite of myself.

I am convinced the internet is the greatest opportunity most of us will ever have to fulfill our potential and Wealthy Affiliate is our best shot at making it happen.

You mentioned that becoming a big earner can take 4 or 5 years, or about the same time as a college degree. That's okay with me. I have a BA and a Masters from a well known state college, but what I've learned in Wealthy Affiliate in the past two and half years is far more valuable.

All my college degrees gave me was horrific debt and the privilege to ask someone for a job. The skills I've learned in WA has freed me from ever having to play the job game and the potential to earn more with each passing year.

Hey Gary!

I really wish more newbies had your attitude. Most wish to have success in a very short amount of time. It is so important to ask yourself what exactly do you want to achieve with your online business, in other words, what value are you going to create to exchange for money. That took me sometime, even after starting my website here at the WA. In my case, I chose the affiliate marketing business model:

I offer value by creating fantastic information and converting that traffic that comes to see that information into affiliate revenue by recommending products.

That took me some time (and a few hours of listening to entrepeneurship podcasts) to understand and put into words.

Thanks for your great reply and I wish the best on all your on-line endeavours here at the WA.

Very true, especially about asking questions, we should not consider any of our asked question silly, as without questions we will never learn.
Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Rawan!

It's normal to sometimes feel maybe a little awkward, even a bit initimidated to ask questions, specially in the beginning.

I remember I had a question regarding HTML5 code and went to one of the top 10 ambassadors. He offered a nice tutorial about code and how to implement it to Youtube videos to make them more "presentable", you know, without advertising pop-ups and the videos which typically appear at the end. I put into practice what I had learned in the tutorial. It helped quiet a bit but I still had some questions. I hesitated for a day or so but in the end, I went for it and asked for his help.

Unfortunately, he never answered back.

So, even though the great majority of the senior community members are real good at offering their advice, sometimes you find yourself with the rare exception. In the end I was able to figure it out on my own. Like I said before, the community here is pretty awesome, with a few, rare exceptions.
