4 Dysfunctions of a Team
In life, we need a team to be successful. You got to be able to spot a problem before it comes.
1. Absence of Trust
- the first dysfunction is an absence of trust between team members, essentially this stems with them not wanting to be vulnerable and because of their unwillingness to be genuinely open about their mistakes and weaknesses which makes it difficult to build a foundation for trust.
The absence of trust stems from the unwillingness of being vulnerable with your team members. Sometimes you complain your leaders don’t help you, but you’re the one who isn’t even voicing these things and you’re causing this lack of trust, so it’s difficult to build that foundation to find a solution.
If you expose your weaknesses and vulnerability’s to your leaders, they can help you. Ask for help if you’re finding something difficult. Never be afraid to ask for help. You have Mentorship here on Mornings With Neno, raise your hand and ask for help. Don’t try to do it all on your own if you can’t.
The reason why there’s a lack of trust is because it starts with team members who aren’t genuinely open about their mistakes and weaknesses. It makes it impossible to build a foundation like that.
You made it a thing for your team members to ask for help too. We all make mistakes and we all have weaknesses. But not all of us are vulnerable about them. If you’re one of those people, you’re one of the problems your organisation is not growing. You’d be surprised how many people are in the same situation as you once you begin to speak up. Sometimes you ask a question and 40 other people had the same question but they didn’t have the courage to ask that question.
2. Avoidance of accountability & Inattention to Results
- failure to hold one another accountable creates an environment where the second dysfunction can thrive. in attention to results occurs when team members put their individual needs such as ego career recognition or even the needs of their division above the collective goals of the team.
Self obsession is self obstruction. Work on somebody else’s problems today and take the attention off yourself. Watch the difference in the growth of your organisation when you start holding others accountable.
You are your own boss. You get to wake up when you want, do what you want. You don’t have to be on this call but because you decided to grow in this business you decided to be here. You have a choice. As a job you don’t have a choice, you go or you get fired. It’s important each and every one of us have someone who will hold us accountable!
If you build an organisation with these problems in it, it will fall apart. Smart people learn from their own mistakes, smarter people learn from other people’s mistakes! Don’t make the same mistakes Neno made!
3. Lack of commitment
- lack of real commitment and buying in causes team members develop an avoidance of accountability and without committing to a clear plan of action even the most driven and focused individuals hesitate to call their peers when they start to slack.
4. Fear of conflict
- You want to have healthy conflict in your opinion. You want people to voice their opinions. If someone is afraid to share their opinion they’ll agree with you but they might not actually buy in to the decision. Fear of conflict leads to lack of commitment, because you’re just going to let the person continue to mess up. You can’t be scared to help people in your organisation.
If you don’t let someone know when you see them doing something wrong or something that’s not helping them you don’t really care about them, you won’t be able to give them that change to grow and learn. You might see one thing one way and they might see it another way. Be real with your people if you really care about them. If they can’t accept it they’re not someone you want to work with.
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at, change!
When you’re looking at something that makes you feel bad, change the outlook on how you see it

Nice read Lorenz!
I am a true believer that any team is only as strong as the weakest member.
In order to be successful each and every member of the team needs to bring something special to the table!
Have a great day my friend!;-)
So true...something to think about. Once you do think about these, your views will change about your current 'team'.
You may want to find another team to work with.
Don't stay stuck, weigh the odds and choose the best for you at that time.
