Choosing a Niche You Love
Hello WA Friends,
I have a quick post today to discuss why it's important to choose a niche that you enjoy writing about. I've been a member here for 18 months or so on and off. Since joining in 2016, I quit and came back twice. I have always wanted to figure out how to monetize something I enjoy writing about, but it has been a struggle to find the right niche.
I started out writing about gluten-free cooking but found it incredibly hard to do on nights when I didn't feel like cooking! I left WA and came back this past fall and started a website in web development. It was actually starting to convert, and I thought that I had finally nailed it!
The only problem: I hate writing about web development. Honestly, I like to do it, but I am really more engaged with web design, and I struggled to write about the topics in a logical, step-by-step fashion. The words did not flow easily and I felt stuck.
Not one to give up again, I decided to try one more time. I started a blog on writing, and I have decided to join the WA affiliate program to teach other writers and artists how to create a blog that they can monetize.
The difference in my level of enjoyment and engagement is ASTOUNDING. I am having a blast. I am already getting comments from people outside of WA. Okay, two of them are from my mom, but hey, you have to start somewhere and there are comments from people who I don't recognize.
I plan to make some money with this thing, but even if I don't, it's something I would do anyway. And that's a question you can ask yourself if you're just starting out: Is this something that I can sustain for a year without making money? If the answer is yes, you're good to go!
And if you're new, don't worry if you choose a niche that isn't quite right for you initially. You can change it later if you need to. Best of luck, and I hope you are all enjoying creating your content as much as I am!
