Getting Outside Your Comfort Zone
At the beginning of this year, I was walking through my local Barnes and Noble when I came across a Quotable Everything dish with the following quote by Neale Donald Walsch:
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."
For all of my twenties I have pretty much lived a stagnant life and didn't really progress in any major way. That quote hit me like a hammer and I have never been the same since. I realized that staying in my comfort zone all these years has only hindered me. I used my shy introvert personality as an excuse...then complained about how I wasn't getting anywhere. Ridiculous.
It started when I became a vendor at a juried craft fair in 2014 (always wanted to do that) and went on more dates in a span of 6 months this year than I have my entire 20s. I make the effort to engage in chit chat with strangers which has given me more confidence and ease in social situations. I applied to a job that will definitely be a step up from my current job...and I got it! I start next week and look forward to going into it wholeheartedly.
It's incredible to look back on the year so far, especially now with having my own blog and horror of all horrors -- I'm writing! I live and die by this mentality now. Amazing things happen now because of my simple change in attitude and actually doing something instead of just complaining. I'm actually a little shocked at how much as changed, especially when I know that I could still push myself more.
If I continue full force, where will I be in a year? Can't wait to see!
