Ok, maybe someone can help me out here. I have been working with this particular theme called MesoColumn for a little while now. My issue is there is a BIG blan

I think to come again after you have done up with all suggestions given below.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to check into this issue for me! I GREATLY appreciate it!...You all ROCK! ;-)

I would suggest that you switch to another theme. Don't put any banner there, it will just look strange... and it's not good to show something like that right away... The visitors are feeling like you are selling stuff right away! Go for another them instead:-)

/Johan

I agree with you about the banner, however why change the entire theme when you can just add a widget? At least try moving the Search This Site widget to the Header Right section before you scrap the entire theme. Even better, you can drag a text widget to that area and custom make a banner that says something like " Build your business the right way! Try Wealthy Affiliate for free!" If that is something you want to do, PM me and I will give you step-by-step instructions. It super easy and is a lot better than scrapping the theme.

That space you're talking about is the header right section in your widgets area. Try putting your affiliate banner there or move the search widget there.

Thanks so much for your advice! I am deciding on whether I want to switch themes only because my current theme is a bit much for me to understand. I will have to take you up on getting the steps on how to do the text widget and custom make a banner though.

Thanks again! :-)

I checked into this theme and could not find out why it dies this. If I was you I would switch themes. I personally prefer Pagelines - Platform it is a great blogging theme and lots of options to choice from plus it is very easy to figure out.

Ok...I will look into the Pagelines-Platform theme. Thanks!

Hi, I think the Amazon affiliate banner that you have at the top could be moved to the side bar instead, That would close up the space. A widget text box could be used to paste the html into,

Thanks! :-)...the answer was right in front of my face and I just looked right over it!..lol...excuse my ignorance..I'm still learning. I didn't know what the heck the widget text box was for!...Wow...that helped me out! :-)

I myself don't see the gap or the Amazon banner mentioned so I'm assuming your prob has been fixed.

Same result here...Amazon widget is filling that space.

The Amazon banner is taking the space (You can't see it) If you remove it, you will be able to close the space or add text. Most affiliate banners you can then add to the right of the text. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to do this with Amazon banners. I usually put them where I have no text. Maybe someone here is smarter than me.....Pete

Actually, you should be able to put most banners in your side bar. Go to youtube and do a search for How To Add Banner In Wordpress Sidebar - EASIEST WAY!!

Aw ok....thanks Pete! :-)

hmmm im not too sure...could it be the theme you chose? I know with some themes, they'll rearrange your info in the way it wasn't intended and how it wasn't supposed to look. You can add a picture maybe as like a background or add the picture to the beginning of your first post. Hope this helps :/

Yes some themes will do that. Thanks for taking time to help me out! :-)

Hi all my WA people! :-)

I need some help!..

Ok...so I'm working on tweeking some things on my site, and colors in one of the things. As well as font...Does anyone k

Yes depends on the flexibility of your theme. Go to appearance > themes > customise in the editor mate

All resolved? Sure hope so. You got great advice from both guys! I had the same question awhile back. Pugins sure are a great tool.

Original poster no longer active.

aaaah ok thanks matey :)

Hey Terrika.

It's totally theme dependent as to whether this is "easy" or not. For example the PageLines theme http://wordpress.org/themes/pagelines allows control over typography even in the free version as you can see here: http://d.pr/i/nHWD You'll also find that many premium themes allow you a lot more "design" options often including the use of Google Webfonts and Adobe Typekit for even more typography choices.

However, with many other themes you might have to "tweak" the CSS code by creating a "custom.css" stylesheet in FTP and copying editing the relevant code from "style.css". I wouldn't recommend direct editing of style.css as if anything goes wrong, you may "trash" your site and also the file style.css often gets overwritten with theme updates, which means you may have to redo your edits over-and-over again.

If you do decide you want to edit the CSS I'd recommend hopping over to Dean's (@apina) website http://www.apinapress.com and signing up for his free HTML & CSS Primer. He actually wrote it for me when I first signed up to WA as a kind and generous act. OK, he really got sick and tired of answering my "coding" questions. :)

If you're a *visual* person I can also highly recommend Ultimate TinyMCE http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ultimate-tinymce/ which gives you a whole host of on page and post typography options. Dom (@DomW) has created some brilliant training on it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/ultimate-tinymce-plugin-the-ultimate-training

Hope this helps!

Rich.

Hi, I left you some info on your profile. Hope it helps. If not contact me. I am glad to try to help.

Hi, some themes are more flexible than others about fonts and colors. I use a free plugin called ckeditor that replaces the standard choices in the wordpress editor. It offers you a lot more choices in changing your font colors etc.

Yes that is true! Thanks for the info on ckeditor! :-)

I have added the ckeditor plugin..but I can't find where to go to make any changes on anything. I went under customize and didn't see anything there. Any idea on where I go?

Thanks!

I have tried looking this up online a few times, but I am still am not fully understanding if I can do screenshots, snippets, whatever you want to call of it..of google images

Yes, you can, but trouble can follow if you use them!

I don't think you can do screenshots of Google Images. Those images are connected to websites. Most of those websites have copyright so you could run into trouble using those images.
Some Flickr images can be used but you would have to read the policy where the image is.
I concur with Rich that you should have a look at Kyle's training at the link Rich provided.

That's EXACTLY the training I needed! :-)

Thanks so much RICH!

You're most welcome! :) R.

I recommend you follow Kyle's training here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-find-add-images-to-your-website It's not "risk-free" to just snag images. :) Rich.
