Double Vision - Is it normal if it comes infrequently?
I thought I'd share this as it was causing me some concern over the past several years.
First, I must caveat that if you are having double vision problems check with your doctor to ensure it is not a serious issue caused by something else. Now, that that is out of the way.
I'd be riding my bike or going for a walk and all of a sudden I was seeing double. Almost crashed on my bicycle once because it was a rough part of the trail and I couldn't follow the smooth line, since there were two.
I saw the optometrist and they said since it wasn't happening very often it was okay.
Well, as you all know we moved back to the USA from Germany and I barely passed the drivers eye exam with my right eye so I knew I needed glasses. At this time we also had eye exam/glass insurance so I decided to take care of it before I quit.
While talking with the optometrist I complained of my double vision and that things weren't perfectly clear. He tested my eyes using a refraction test and lo and behold he could get my eyes to match up.
A couple weeks later I get my new glasses and at first they feel a little weird (to be expected because of the refraction adjustment) but I get used to them.
Let me tell you something. I got them before my last deployment and even with the heavy lifting (that wasn't helping my hemorrhoids) followed by my exercise program at home in December and I have not had one occasion of double vision affecting my eyes.
According to the doctor its due to the muscles not working as well as they should, so by putting a little refraction in the lenses my eyes aren't constantly working to match up anymore.
If this helps someone that's great, if not, call it another day of getting older by Grandpa Waller.
Cheers!
Have you had this type of problem before? Was it fixed by the right pair of glasses?

Sorry to read you are facing this challenge! No, it never happened to me but, as a multidiscipline artist, I work A LOT WITH MY EYES so I have learnt the hard way to take care of them properly.
For example, I set a timer (max 1 hour) then I remove my eyes from the pc!
I cannot eat sugar food after 5 pm because if I do it will affect my eyes during the night with so much pains!
So, listen to your body first and then inquiry more with your doctor!
Big hugs!
Not exactly this type of challenge. One day, when I opened my bible, I was not able to read it, but when I kept the bible a bit farther away, I was able to read. I went to doc and he provided me with eyeglasses. Doc said this is normal after the age of 40 LOL.
Thanks for sharing that blog post...
It provides a very relatable and realistic account of a type of intermittent binocular diplopia (double vision) that is often overlooked or misunderstood.
From a clinical perspective, this experience is not uncommon and highlights several important points that should be discussed with professionals. Particularly in the context of eye strain, uncorrected refractive error, and binocular vision anomalies.
Wishing you some rest

Yes, thought it'd be worth sharing. So many things I'm learning about the body as I'm getting older and no one told me anything about.
I hear you on that one, Les.
Nobody says anything until it's too late and you have to explore the body on your own.

This finally jogged my memory Les.
While in Spain late 1987, when I was trying to read something at work, everything I looked at became fuzzy and unreadable. When I did try to read out loud, my speech became garbled. Before I could leave the building my right arm went numb.
I thought I was having a stroke.
I disagreed with the doctor's assessment and was sent to Weisbadan, Germany for a week. Same assessment by them.
In 1988, went to University VA hospital in Madison, Wisconsin and I finally accepted their assessment that it was a severe migraine attack (my first of many to follow).
Migraines were caused by Mercury in my teeth fillings.
Years later, I had the teeth removed and bye bye migraines.

happy to know it was resolved and thanks for sharing
Thanks Les!
The migraines could be very debilitating at times. I remember crawling around on the floor once because I didn't know what to do it was so bad.
I was a bit shocked to learn they were still using Mercury, a known toxin.

Reminds me of another story I can share, lol. Although, I wasn't laughing at the time.
