Life without electricity
Without Electricity
What would you do without electricity? One Fine Saturday morning, it could be any morning, You wake up after eight wonderful full hours of restful sleep. You are feeling very good, the sun is shining really bright and the sky is very blue. Walking to the bathroom you flip the switch to turn on the lights but nothing happens. Thinking it was a couple of burn light blubs you proceed on to the kitchen and turn on the coffee/tea pot. Continuing on to the living room to turn on your Television for the morning weather report, nothing happens.
Unaware that during the night while you were enjoying your blissful uninterrupted rest. A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), which is a large expulsions of plasma and magnetic field from the sun's corona. It can eject billions of tons of coronal material and carry an embedded magnetic field (frozen in flux) that is stronger than the back ground solar wind interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) strength. CME's travel outward from the sun at speeds ranging from slower than 250 kilometers per second (km/s) to as fast as near 3000km/s. The CME's can take up to 3 days to arrive from the sun to our Earth. This particular morning it hit and knocks out all our satellite's, and the majority of our electrical transformers.
LIFE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY
Life without electricity, sounds torturous and unacceptable. Our lives are so dependent on electricity that even an hour of electricity cut seems like a never-ending time.
More than ever before, we need electricity for almost all our work, from smallest chores like charging a mobile phone to powering industrial units. Science and technology have progressed with leaps and bounds making our lives more comfortable than ever before. Yesteryear luxury is a necessity today. Now everyone has electricity in their homes, providing comforts to our lives and it arrives like 'An Angel to a Rescue'. No wonder that it increased our productivity, comfort and safety, but it also made us its slave.
Look around you, everything runs on electricity. The fan which gives you air, the speaker from which you hear music, the mobile phone with which you communicate requires electricity. Sitting in front of your Personal Computer doing your work or watching television. You suddenly become irritated when the power goes out. If its night, it is dark all around and if is day, it's hot without a fan or air conditioning. The power cut is, even more, than a nightmare for industrial establishment as they have a target to achieve and for how many hours can their generator support, even it has its limitations.

Hi there, Laurence,
Thank you for sharing this insightful story regarding life without electricity. While living in central New Jersey, experiencing electric thunder storms are common occurrences.
These storms would wipe out electricity for hours if not for days. Candles and flashlights were the only recourse. When you have a big family, getting through these storms can be challenging.
Being prepared for the twists and turns of life is a brilliant idea.
Happy Friday!
Rachele
Rachele, Thank you for those kind words, they are very much appreciated. Yes, being always prepared is not only a good idea, but, I believe a must thing to do to ensure that if this occurs, your family would be taken care of and protected.

We went 5 weeks without Electricity/WIFI after Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines a few years ago. It was interesting Larry.

Not trying to knock it, but I canβt!!!

Larry

Interesting stuff Lawrence, but we survived before electricity came about and if it was to ever not exist again, it would be hard as we are used to it, but... we would adapt and survive my friend!!
Nice to hear all that optimize and trust in π¨ mankind. Have a good weekend.
Larry
I don't trust in mankind at all with the way we are currently destroying everything we have been given my friend, but... we do possess the ability to adapt and move on....
For how much longer is anyone's guess!!
Yes, Each one of us is able, but we don't have all the want to(will) to accomplish or do what he or she needs to be able to do just to get by, right?
