Why can't we use emoticons in Wealthy Affiliate?

Hi everybody,

I'm just curious about the question mentioned above, because personally I think it could make our posts or comments etc. even better.

Maybe it's because I just really love to see faces and love to talk to people in person, because I can see their facial expressions?

For me an emoticon adds so much information and can resolve a lot of misunderstandings.

Don't understand me wrong, I love the fact that this kind of language is possible so we can create relationships all over the world... = GREAT INVENTION!

I just feel you can add so much more information and especially the emotion to what you are saying, when using an emoticon..

Who does agree with me?? Let me know below.

If there are a lot who agree, maybe it can be a suggestion to Kyle & Carson??

One of our members posted a cool blog about the emoticons we CAN use (◠‿◕✿)

Can't speak to the "why" without conjecture.

I suppose it might be that some people over-use them? :) :) :) :) :) :)

Could be that people just haven't put a lot of emPHAsis on them.

Perhaps they are trying to see how clever we can be with the ASCII art:
__̴ı̴̴̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡*̡̡ ̴̡ı̴̴̡ ̡̡͡|̲̲̲͡͡͡ ̲▫̲͡ ̲̲̲͡͡π̲̲͡͡ ̲̲͡▫̲̲͡͡ ̲|̡̡̡ ̡ ̴̡ı̴̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡̡.___

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind seeing them, but I don't necessarily miss them either.

Yes, there must be a reason why we don't have it. I'm trying to think back to whether we had them when I was first at WA in 2009. It was a different setup then, with forums rather than classrooms. It's quite possible we did have emoticons back then, and they probably got overused.

I think Carson's approach is to keep things as simple as possible. If you go to http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/about, he has the quote:
“Effective design isn’t the process of adding more, it is the focused process of being able to take away and simplify.”

So the idea is for WA to have everything you need, but nothing you don't need.

But I agree, emoticons might be nice, as long as people didn't overuse them. But maybe they could program it so that it was limited, like how you can only put one exclamation mark and limited uppercase in your title, to stop people DOING THIS!!!!!!!!!!

Random upside-down question mark: ¿

Yeah subnetbuzz, that's also true that a lot of people will over-use them..
Maybe you're right this could be one of the reasons...

And if they are trying to see how clever we are with the ASCII art.. I think we failed ;) But yours is pretty nice!!!
