Earth’s ecosystem on the verge of imbalance?

I believe the Earth ecosystem we live in is a very complex balance system of many components, as many as the number of known and unknow living things and plants.

Domino Effect

Each component of the Ecosystem, no matter how small, must be there, otherwise the balance is upset. Any changes affecting the Earth’s ecosystem, will impact another component of the ecosystem, which will affect something else like a domino effect. Ecosystem changes effects however take years to form and be noticed or felt by humans.

Cause

We all know that trees, plants and some living organism use sunlight to break down CO2 into oxygen, water and carbohydrates; a process called photosynthesis. Even though we do know how important trees and plants are, intentionally we keep destroying our forests and jungles for timber and real estate, not to mention the accidental bushfires, contributing to global warming.

The bush fires in Australia last summer killed more than a billion animals, destroyed an estimated 18.6 million hectares (46 million acres; 186,000 square kilometres; 72,000 square miles), destroyed over 5,900 buildings (including 2,779 homes) and killed nearly 40 people.

We are NOT doing enough

We can’t stop producing the greenhouse gasses (carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, and gasses from aerosol and refrigerators) because we are so depended on cars, factories, power plants and spray cans. To make matters worst we keep destroying Earth’s lungs (forest and jungles).

Ecosystem Definition

Ecosystem is the physical environment where a community exists and interacts. That physical environment and community are part of a bigger ecosystem and each ecosystem interacts with the other ecosystem. There is contention for resources but there is balance for either ecosystem to exist. If the balance is upset, then catastrophic events take place and eventually both ecosystems suffer leading to possible extinction.

Ecosystem Earth

The Earth’s ecosystem however is much more complicated that two ecosystems. It consists of everything we know, and we don’t know yet. Any changes could greatly impact life on Earth.

Great example is the extinction of the dinosaurs. One of the theories is that a big meteor hit the Earth creating dust, debris and gasses dramatically changing the Earth’s climate. This change caused food scarcity and therefore only smaller animals could survive leading to extinction of the bigger ones such as the dinosaurs.

Ecosystem Earth Under Stress?

The straggle for resources to survive is an indication that the ecosystem is under stress and changes are imminent. We are running out of crude oil. Earth can’t produce enough to sustain the demand and therefore we have struggles over oil control. This just an example and perhaps the most prevalent one.

Question

Is the Covid-19 the Earth ecosystem’s reaction to imbalanced, caused by misuse of the ecosystem’s resources, to restore balance?

Americans do more than anyone else to clean and repair our world. If we don't continue encourageing a cleaner environment then who else will. We need to survive at the same time too.

I've witnessed the changes in my brief 70 year lifespan. I agree that we all need to do our part to protect and preserve our home.
