If I Work at This 8 Hours Per Day.

Last Update: May 28, 2018

...will I be successful online and when?

OR

If I work at this, how long will it take me to achieve success?

These are some very common questions I get, so I thought I would spend a few minutes explaining what the “process” of success looks like and some expectations you can have.

There are some really obvious things I have learned over the years in terms of those who will achieve success and those that don’t.

I think that if you are sitting in the boat wondering when success is going to strike or if you are just getting rolling and these are questions that have been possibly preventing you from moving forward, what I am going to tell you will be insightful and perhaps quite revealing.

Success is more patient than you…

The only time I see someone fail within the online world is when they quit...prematurely of their success. As we are building a business, sometimes we hit a crossroad or a difficult time when something doesn’t make sense, something “breaks”, or something simply is confusing the heck out of us.

The easiest way out is to quit. The more difficult way is to push on.

Guess which option MOST people choose? Quitting.

Guess who ends up reaping all of the rewards of a successful business? The Pushers.

So be patient, give success time and realize that it is not going to happen overnight.

Working for a MONTH really hard won’t lead to success, Working for a YEAR Will.

Keeping on this topic, most people have run into their fair share of GURU scams/offers claiming instant riches. Perhaps that is why some folks think that success within a month is a viability, when in fact it is not.

Success takes time.

Before you create a thriving business, you must first work on building a foundation for that success to build off of. I always say, you cannot build a skyscraper on a mud foundation. The same as you cannot build a very successful online business without a website, without quality content, without rankings, and without an understanding of how to do all of this properly.

It is at that point that you have a foundation, that you can start building out your website for success.

Success is not on a "clock", the determining factor is YOUR actions and YOUR hard work.

It happens at different rates for different people. Every niche is different, every website is different, and each and every one of us is different in our very own unique way. This is the cool part of business. We can all take a seemingly parallel path to creating a business, but very different at the same time and create a ridiculous amount of success.

I personally took 3+ months before I experienced any income online, by month 6 I was creating income with consistency, and by the year mark I was earning what would be deemed as a decent full time income.

Here I sit, 13 years later of being full time online...I am sure glad I didn’t put a clock or a time limit on my success. I simply said, I am going to achieve success...whatever it takes and I drew out my path to get there. Anyone can do what I am doing, that is what I find so crazy...but very few are willing to give themselves enough time to do it.

Treat business like a CAREER and it will become one.

I want to try a new venture! This is a new opportunity! Let’s give this Internet thingy a whirl. Those are the statements that scare the crap out of me.

The reason. People saying those are coming into this with the wrong idea.

This is the real world, this is business, and the online business world is no different than the offline business world in that (a) there is very little overhead to getting a business up and running (b) there is far more opportunity online than offline, 2.8 billion people in fact (c) there is no limit to your potential. You set your own goals.

The problem is that if you walk into the online world like it is some “opportunity” or some “venture” you are creating, it instantly tells me that you are going to take the “try until it dies” approach. Nobody has created a successful business without treating it like a long term BUSINESS.You are in business. For yourself. Treat it that way.

So when will the “S” word happen for you?

Only YOU can determine that. What I can tell is you is that it CAN and it will happen if you dedicate yourself, work hard, and remain persistent until/after you achieve your goals.

What I can tell you is that you have absolutely everything you need here at Wealthy Affiliate other than the YOU part.

Make today your day that you commit you your future, one that is not a month out or a few months out...but a year out and that will lead to several years within the online space.

Rooting for you and your inevitable success. ;)

Thank you Kyle, this is really inspiring.

I've discovered the online business world in Oct 2017, ever since then I've been learning and made a little bit to experience the potential of making an income.

However my problem is that I've been jumping from one business model to another (Shopify, Amazon FBA, eBay, Udemy creating courses) and I wasn't creating a business that was sustainable.

Now being in WA, helps me focus on one business model, go all in on one niche and encourages me to keep going.

"The more difficult way is to push on"... couldn't agree more on this and applied topretty much everything in life. I'm excited to push myself as much as I can as this is a new venture for me. I'm also glad I get to do it alongside my wife. Thanks for the opportunity you've given us to achieve this together.

Kyle,
Thanks so much for your inspirational blogs. I built a traditional business that was very successful, but it took years after acquiring inventory, and paying overhead as I went. I am excited about WA, I'm learning as I go, slowly, but gradually, with a bump here and there, which I know is to be expected. Thanks for being patient with us newbies, but i will get there.

Hi Thomas,

I would like to encourage you to upload a picture of yourself and fill in your personal description in your Wealthy Affiliate Profile so that we can get to know you. I also want to encourage you to not write in all caps because it's considered yelling on the Internet — except when it is used sparingly for emphasis.

If you need any answers or assistance, please don't hesitate to ask because the Wealthy Affiliate (WA) Community loves to help. I wish you success in your WA online business.

I have checked MANY online marketing sites, yet NONE had the virtue or dignity to be so open and honest about the cold realistic side of online marketing !
Some put their promo ahead, at the expense of the full truth, in order to lure in more people, you guys do the exact opposite.

Yep, there is a definite learning curve to earning money online. It's not going to happen overnight, and it's not going to happen for everyone.

Learn to be patient, be willing to make mistakes, ask for help, try over and over until you know for sure that you are going to be capable of picking yourself back up each time.

Nothing that makes money is so simple that you don't have to do any real work.

This is a journey, and I'm in it for the long haul. I appreciate the forerunners who have gone before us and laid the groundwork.

So true. Every word. Not sure why people think if you work online, success just falls from the sky. Followed by a huge amount of money, of course.

In the beginning, I've given myself a year at least, before even thinking of reconsidering my options.

However, now, after five months I know I'm not quitting, ever.

I've learned so much during this time; it would be crazy not to use it in some way. Not to mention many ideas that keep on coming.

So, for now, concentrating on my two sites, learning, working hard, and considering myself successful already!

Best,
Alenka

Hi
Thanks for reaching out. I haven't been concentrating on making money this past five months - I wanted to have both of my sites set up, learn how to do everything, seo, social media, divi builder... and then see what happens.
Good luck. Work on your training, your site and the money will follow.

Hi there Kyle, quitting is a word that should best be removed from our everyday vocabulary......press the delete button! Whether we know it or not, we all have been given special/unique talents by our Creator and is something precious to behold. Whatever we do should be done wholeheartedly with a 100% commitment.
The online marketing world, just like with most other serious aspects of life should be approached with an open in-depth due diligent mind.........it is the all-important initiation of the new digital world. Those of us who do not recognise this fundamental fact will sadly be left behind.
I, therefore, see the WA program and especially the Bootcamp niche to be of paramount importance to the world out there. The opportunities are wide and abundant!
2. 8 Billion is what we can connect with........but let's not forget that are an estimated 7.442 Billion people on earth?.

Many thanks for your informative postings, Kyle.

Take care..................Johan.

Hello Kyle, truer words have never been written. Quitting is always the easiest route and we can then find many excuses why things did not work. I have seen many comments similar to the ones you listed and I always say to myself, reality will not look pretty once they start going. Thanks for spelling it out.

This advice is gold.

I was very lucky. My dad was a business man, and while I'm sure he had jobs when he was young, the man I grew up with never had a "job", he was always self-employed. And always successful. I still have some of the notebooks that he used to jot notes of conversations, schedule appts, and book gigs. I feel lucky because I got to grow up seeing the rhythm of this existence.

And you're right, there's no "trying it out". You get in there and you do it. If you have a talent, skill, or product to offer, you offer it. Period.

As for timeframe, I often think of it as farming. You don't plant seed thinking that you'll have a harvest in a day, or a month... each niche/market has its own "harvest season." Like a crop it also has it's own "needs" (feeding, weeding and water) We simply need to learn the needs and season for our prospective niche. Then we can set our duties and expectations accordingly.

Thank you for providing us with a platform to put our skills out there. And thank you for your solid advice.

I get a little impatient sometimes myself and have to stop and consider that it took me 20 years of training and learning before I started my physical business. And another 2-3 years before it was successful!
The thought of going from greenhorn to seeing some level of success in a year is amazing ! I'm on a 5 year plan , and sometimes I have to remind myself of that !

Yeah, so you get it. For some reason (and partly because of all the get rich quick scams out there), people think that the online business world should be immediate when no other accomplishment in life happens like this.

It takes work to achieve success, but I believe it is less work than an physical business and certainly does not require nearly as much money to get up and running with a business online.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Great article. I really enjoyed it. It helped give me some realistic goals and understand that I have to be patient and persistent in order to obtain the results I desire. I've wasted so many years working for other companies and making them successful to find that I'm always dispensable at the end of the day. That's a horrible feeling. If I can work overtime at someone else's job and make them rich or work two jobs just to get ahead, I can make this my second job and build my business. It's worth the sacrifice. Thanks for the advice.

It is hard to let go because there is so much to do and we think we're going to miss something.
However, we need to be realistic and give our brains a rest at times so that we are ready to tackle the next day.
It has been proven that you become useless if you don't have regular breaks and your peak performance dwindles rapidly.

So take small breaks during the day, and then make sure you get a good night's rest.

Truly said! It does make sense when you suggest that online business should also be treated as offline business. I think, perhaps, there are very few who would look at this as a sole business model to bank upon and hence work on this as a secondary interest. This leads to lesser time and effort given to this business model resulting in its ultimate demise, prematurely.

Totally, but I think people jump in thinking its easy because the other "Gurus" tell them that. Im in the tshirt biz and literally every tshirt site tells people that they can open a shop with no design experience. Its this type of message that leads people astray. They may not need experience to write "I love my dog" on a shirt, but the minute they release that shirt into the market they are competing with every person who does have design experience. So its a bit of a set up for them.

When something is easy, a necessity, or thoughtless, everyone does it. Like breathing.

When something makes people uncomfortable, usually as the result of having to learn something new or do something new, then you are going to have an order of restraint from folks and thus, many people don't.

We can all achieve success online. Not all of us will, and that is just how it works because many people will simply give up WAY too early.

It is truly the case, slow and steady wins the race. If you ask ANYONE that is successful online or offline, they will tell you the same thing. It takes time and effort. This is a constant.

The problem is that some people that are simply trying to earn money off of others, have made up the fool's gold lie that instant success can happen and that it is easy...they tell you this to "sell" their product, nothing more.

There is a concise path to success online and that is exactly what we teach here at WA. ;)

Great encouragement Kyle, thank you for this reinforcement. In view of all the work I've put into my Facebook following for the last two years in preparation for this time, this seems fortuitous. But I know that it's oh soo much more than that! It is my new business coming of age.

In the pursuit of success, I've often said, "Inch by inch it's a cinch...yard by yard is very hard". Meaning that if you are looking at the thing as a whole, you can get so overwhelmed that you are frozen in inaction and disbelief. When you break it down in bite sized pieces, you can handle things and begin moving forward. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. But you have within your hands all the training and support you would every want.

The struggle is worth the effort. i may only inch along day by day, but one day I will look back and say, "WOW...Did I create that?"

My time has come and I'm not about to 'give up' now. I'm on the verge of something beautiful. Helping people within my niche is also a success.

Thank you again Kyle for this reinforcement and validation. I will be joining you in the success circle.

And may all the naysayers watch my puff of smoke as I take off.

Blessings to all the other entrepreneurs...who, like me...don't give up on their dreams to build here.

See you up there Kyle...I plan to be one of those who never give up.Gathering my courage for the journey.

I cannot get over how many people think that just joining something they are going to be successful. It is hard work and like you say, those that push and keep on pushing are the ones who succeed in the end. I think after being years online and admittedly "quitting" things I can see now, why I wasn't successful, or I only had minimal success.

This is it. Wealthy Affiliate has every tool necessary for me to be successful and it is what "I" do with it that will count for me. I'm quite excited for my future really. I have so much belief in what is going to happen in perhaps a year from now, maybe earlier. Who knows? Again thanks for an incredible platform Kyle and all involved. There is nothing else out there in Internet land that comes close to Wealthy Affiliate!

GREAT BLOG!!!! My wife and I were talking about this last night. A combination of the instant gratification generation and scams online promising the world, produce people that think everything just happens. Anything worth having is worth working for. My favorite is that if it was easy everyone would do it. The thing is, there is a lot of work, time, and effort put into your page, but you only have to do it once. The rewards are everlasting, at least until your niche becomes obsolete.

I just finished reading the above post and it puts things more in place for me. I like the program and progressing right along. I was just afraid that no one was really making money. That we are just going through the classes and will not see any results. I am excited about the program and Internet marketing, but always had the fear in the back of my head, that it may still be a scam.

a lot of people on here are making money, you can read tons of success stories, blogs about progress, sales... just type in the search bar at the top!
WA is not a scam, it really is the best place online to learn and earn and as time passes your fear will disappear =)
Have fun with the training

When I started, I was very inconsistent. Now, I give my website at least 4 to 5 hours everyday on top of my full-time job. I am always doing something related to Internet Marketing (working on my website, writing a new post, reading here in WA or watching Jay's videos). Doing all these things make me more focus and keep my interest active.

I don't know about other people, for me I need to keep in touch with things related to IM. If not my motivation and interest die quickly. But I never wanted to quit. Quitting is not an option for me.

After a while I keep doing that, Doing something related to IM become my habit. I don't need to push myself too much like in the beginning. Now I am on the right track and right Mindset.

When I run out of ideas to write on my website, I keep reading lessons here in WA and watch Jay's videos. Doing this always give me new ideas to write. Of course with the help of Jaaxy too.

I am still lack of confidence to do certain things ( like video etc.. ). In this case I sit down and figure out '' what is the reason behind ''. Am I afraid to speak in front of camera? Or Am I afriad the technology that I am not familiar with? Or Simply Am I too lazy to learn something new and want to avoid the challenge ahead? By asking myself these questions, I always come out with the ANSWER. Of course I need to be painfully HONEST with myself.

This is Me, my friends. I am a kind of person need a PUSH. No one push me when I work at home alone. So I need to push myself. It took a while to keep me going but after that day and night all i think and do is about my online business.

I wish you all very best of success. Good Day My Friends :) .

I think it is very common for people to benefit from a positive peer pressure. I think that is one reason so many people work in groups.

Hey Thiha,
You are dead on. You have to stay engaged with the positivism of WA. When you create action daily then you will get positive results. You may not always see them but they are there. Since you are having trouble with video, let me give you a "push". When you create a YouTube video and then you embed that video on your website, you are creating a link. That video is linked back to your website when you leave your link to your website in the information section, G+ and YouTube itself. This creates SEO juice back to your website. So even if your video is terrible, it will still help you in the long run. This is what finally made me get off my butt and just do it. Hope this helps.

hey this is an old post as I see.....but this than means that I should put all my youtube videos on my site? instead of what i have currently?

What I have.

I have a link in the header of my webpage titled "Videos" that links to my youtube channels

what your saying

I should put them directly on my site to make SEO rankings higher i get that....

My actual question

Should I delete the "video" link that links directly to youtube or keep it this way and just add the videos in the appropriate places ?

You can put your Youtube videos on your website if there is support content. If you are just putting a bunch of videos on your site with no relevance or no support content, then it will only detract from your website.

yaya for sure no i was just wondering....it would defiantly be relevant it would be my own videos pertaining to the subject just instead of having them link to youtube ill just have it like under or below or in the middle of the text...?

I can tell you this about making money from the training here at WA. Everyone that stays with WA until they start to see income will make money 100% of the time. If you stay at it until you make money you will make money.

Thiha Hello
I know this was written 7 months ago, but I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading this!! So much reminds me of myself like doing video's!!!
My 27 year old daughter started making utube videos about 6 years ago! She enjoys and has worked in several Big Chain Store's in the make up Dept. Also is involved in local theaters as a make up artist, and has got very good at it.
Many girls would ask her for advise on what colors to use etc. Well she started making utube video's on how to and what products she liked best.
She really didn't like the one that were on utube and their whole 15 minutes on how to put on make up, sounded like someone was holding up cards for her to read! She said it sounds and looks to fake!
So she started doing live ones foe 15 minutes a day and never did edit them! If she could thing of a name or her little dog jump onto her lap she just kept it real!! Her viewers starting out were small, but after she just did it live mistakes and all, the next day it jumped to over 25 thousand hits!!!!
Then different Suppliers of make up started sending her 200-500.00 worth of free stuff for her to try out, and every day UPS would deliverer several packages to her of all this free stuff.
People said they liked her because she was funny, was just herself at everybody loved it!!
So my friend, you just might try that approach and see how it works for you!!!
Just a thought !!!
Anyway, love reading your info.
Hope to talk to you again soon
Kind Regards

Thanks, Don!

We have thought about doing youtube but we cringe out of fear of 'messing up'!

This made me think about those that I do enjoy watching and they are all the same. Very real and not too concerned about perfection. They are more concerned with getting the information to the people.

Thank you for sharing this!! :O)
