Pets Being Dumped Like Garbage

Heartbroken

I joined WA for the first time about 5 years ago and it was a total failure for me. My niche was trying to combat animal abuse. I had an amazing website, it was indexed within a week or so of being published, had great content, but in my opinion, maybe it had too many articles the public didn't want to know about. But it's real! It's out there and I literally do not sleep at night because I can't help them.

So, as a fellow WA member, I am asking my community. What in the hell should I do? I do NOT care if I make money off this website. All I care about is placing well deserving, abandoned pets in loving homes. I want to spread the awareness of animal cruelty, I don't want people to turn a blind eye because it's gruesome and they don't want to think about something like that happening.

Every day, I receive an abundance of emails about Chihuahuas, Rottweilers, Akita, etc., that have just been abandoned by their owners. Some of these dogs are seniors, 8+ years old. Some are said to do nothing but cry in their crate all day and night. I get emails that a 2-year old Rott is going to be euthanized in 48 hours if we can't find him a home, all because their owner didn't want him anymore. So again, I'm asking, what would you do???

But not only is this happening, there are bears being kept in cages for inhumane reasons in other countries, minks for their furs, factory farming right under our noses that each consumer has no idea what our dairy cows go through on a daily basis so we can have a bowl of cereal. Factory Farming is so inhumane that I would start a crusade to stop it today if I could. This is the stuff the public does not want to know about. You why? Guilt. That's why. I don't drink milk. My dad was a dairy farmer and if he were alive today, factory farming would break his heart and kill him. Free range chickens is a complete joke, not real. I could keep going but I'm not.

The public doesn't want to know, so how do I get through and how can I help and sleep at night? How can I get these animals to a safe place on our planet where they should be??

We have a rescue dog and I feel your pain. The organization we got our stray from is doing great work in spaying, educating and finding homes for rescued dogs but honestly it's just the tip of the iceburg. It sickens me sometimes to think about how humankind treats animals and nature (and each other) but at the end of the day there's only so much an individual can do. My recommendation is to focus on educating the people who will listen. Someone mentioned about preaching to the choir but there is also a huge population of people who mean well but lack knowledge. For example, the average people looking for a dog as pet will likely be receptive to information about animal abuse and might consider adopting a rescue if they just learn more about problems with breeders and puppy factories for example. Also every people you can convince to spay/neuter their pet is a win. The people who just get pets on a whim or as a status symbol are a lost cause and you can't convince them otherwise.

My other recommendation is to establish limits to how much worry you carry. I know it's hard, but you will pass more good around if you just focus on changing a few things with a positive drive instead of carrying the whole world on your shoulders. I've been away for a while from the community but it's nice to see some meaningful conversation conversation going on. This is an important topic because there are a lot of people looking to start a website for a cause instead of personal profit. Unofrtunately I don't have a clear idea what you should do with your website but if I figure out something I'll drop you a line.

Thank you so much for your insightful response. Honestly, it's a curse I have LOL. The pain I feel for these animals is beyond belief. If I could help one animal a day that would satisfy me. But like I mentioned. I had a previous website, and most people did not want to engage with it due to the content of it dealing with animals being abused, factory farming, etc. How can I spread the word if people want to turn a blind eye as if it's not happening?
That is my frustration along with those who buy a puppy because it's a "cool" breed and then realize they have no idea how to handle it.

I'm still in the process of trying to come up the with the website. I want it to be perfect and engaging to the public.

I see your point friend. There are lots of inhumane crimes and cruelty to animals all over the world. We have lots of organizations in the U.S. that claim to do what they do but do not. ASPCA is the top contender for doing atrocious things to animals.
They claim that they want donations to help animals. But if you dig deeper into their dark side, you'll see that they've made millions by playing with people's feelings. Like those heart felt commercials. Hardly any of those money goes to the welfare of taking care of animals. They've been sued many times over.
The reality is that they rather euthanize as many more animals as they can to not give out any of the donated money to help animals. Money donations for animals are the biggest con game ever. There needs to be honest and transparent people who really want to help animals out. Despite our feelings for animals, it will be a very big task to take care of animals that need our help. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but it will sure be tough. I appreciate you sharing such attention on animals in need. All the best!

Thank you for your thoughts on this. But my opinion in my research is PETA is far worse. Their euthanasia rate is far higher because to them that is what is considered humane practices. At least the ASPCA does go out and do the rescues most times.

I totally understand. I am in rescue, too, and everyone is quick to send prayers on Facebook but few of us are willing to face the reality. There are people who will not turn away, like us, and your website is for those people but it's preaching to the choir. The others will not look. There may be a way to find a middle ground. If you like, let's connect. If I can help I will. Can I post my email on here?

3

You know what? Yes preaching to the choir is so correct! Do you know how many times I have donated money to dogs on Facebook that needed surgery that were in shelters so they could become adoptable? I'm a doer, not just someone who says "ok, I'll share and hope someone can help"

Yes, please send me your email and let's connect! Two heads are always better than one! Thank you so much for reaching out!!
There might be light at the end of the tunnel. I do not have a site built yet, but I certainly will!

Thank you for sharing your feelings. I can understand how frustrated you must feel when you want to do something, but don't seem to know what is best. Sorry but I have no idea what you should do. Perhaps you could team up with some of the bug charities that currently work in these areas

Thank you for the empathy on this. It is my absolute true passion in life. If I could sell everything I own and open a rescue that is what I would do. Trust me, I've seriously thought about it.

I feel like this is what I why I was put on the earth. So, now I just need to figure out that path. I reached out to the ASPCA and others but when you try to work with Non-Profits you really cannot get much help and with them being so big it is really difficult. I am a monthly donor of theirs too.

I'm thinking of just producing an informative website about the topic, but first, I will research a great url title and website name that will draw people in. I have some time. So, I guess that's where I will start.

What about using social media?

I appreciate your help here, but I think you are missing my point here. How can I reach people to let them know of the true tragedy of what's happening?
I have two websites going right now that are indexed and doing okay. I can eventually generate income with those. My point is, my true passion is animals and I want the public to know that animal abuse is happening and it needs to stop!
I get very passionate about this topic. I was literally crying while typing that post. My apologies. But those daily emails and trying to place abandoned dogs is so very difficult. I just don't understand people. Why get a dog if you can't commit???

What you have written is absolutely right. I feel if you can include some content (in a positive tone) around the themes of responsibility, accountability, empathy (in a general sense when these apply to all living beings, humans included !). You can engage more and more people to share their thoughts and feelings on these concepts. I hope when people, at least some of them, start thinking and talking about something, there is a chance that they would be inclined to implement those feelings in real.
Thanks.

Does social media help?

2

You know, I'm not sure. I guess it just really depends. I've had people block me simply because they do not want to know about it.

2

Those are some really great ideas, thank you for sharing.

Thank you. I am trying to use these in my own way. Let us hope for the best.
