Volunteering- A do Good Project, and a Ton of Work!
Just want to share with my WA family
As August slipped to a close I reflected back on August 15,16,17,18 and 19 when my husband Sam and I ran the Site Transport division of the world-famous Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, moving all instruments, musical equipment and musicians around our big fairgrounds where the event is held every year.
Site Transport basically moves everything that needs moving during the festival. We are equipped with two side x sides plus trailers, and a 6 seat 'courtesy shuttle' for helping handicapped patrons, or those with mobility issues, people with sore feet, moms with loads of stuff to carry, and once in a while a grandson looking for a small ride :)
I say world-famous because the 50 musical acts are from every corner of the earth, making for a very interesting, diverse listening experience, and the patrons cruise into town from every Province in Canada, and many from the US as well.
This really is a three-day festival, with over 50 acts, but for us, the Supervisors of site transport it has been months of prep. Schedules and lists and calls and recruiting. Trailers and hitches and tires.
Once we get on site, Friday morning, we are there from 8am to 12pm all three days! this time is spent working, with just a bit of watching some music!
We took an hour to watch this icon of Canadian music, front man for Blue Rodeo, here at the festival with his own band. It was transformational to say the least! when Jim Cuddy sings, birds become stunned by the beauty of his voice, and fall outta the trees. jk :D
We have volunteered to run site transport for more than 15 years at this festival. That is a lot of work !! But sharing your energy and your time and energy selflessly really helps one grow as a person. Volunteering enriches the community you live in, creates friendships that last a lifetime, and in our case, really helps a festival go smoothly! lol
Now that we're finished that gig, I'm back to my WA work with unswerving focus.
I find that I've spent hours reading blogs and forming site comments. So many interesting perspectives on everything in WA. Don't you find you can get caught up reading WA blogs?
Reading about all the breakthroughs, ideas formed, aha moments, wins and wins and wins. It's inspiring to me, that's why I get caught up in it for hours I guess lol... information download !!
Learning something new every day here at WA.
Having fun working with site comments, which I became aware of just before the festival. Not sure why it took me so long to figure out that this was a great way to give and receive constructive input on how your site is looking to others, and what your content makes them think and feel.
To elaborate, site comments is awesome.

Brilliantly engineered program. Help others, they help you. I have gotten some great comments through this program, and given some out as well, I hope. Every comment takes me a while to write, so they better be good !
Well, getting back to work now, just wanted to tell my little tale of what I've been up to in the outside world, lol and also to sing a praise for site comments !!

It is great that you get so much out of the festival every year by putting so much effort in.
And I understand how this relates to WA. By helping others we get so much back.
I also believe that by putting so much in at the beginning with what sometimes feels like very little reward, we can develop a benefit to so many in the end.
