'Followed' vs 'Following'

In the world full of social media tools, it seems like we are measured by how many people that we are being 'followed by'. The more people that you are being followed by, more popular you are and thus be rewarded.

Although, I have been with WA a short period, I have observed that it is quite contrasting to the world's social media trend. In WA, when you click on a member, you will see on the right side of the page a profile picture and right underneath the picture is information on how many people that member is following with pictures, emphasizing the importance about the person. Furthermore, we as a member are encouraged to follow new members and welcome them.

We live in a society where greed is rampant and your success is measured by how many people follow you on your social media. However, it is refreshing to see a culture in the organization that emphasizes humbleness by following others.

In the traditional Jewish family, the children are taught to be a contributor to the society from very early on their life (If you want more detail, please click on this link). Their life style may not mean success to everyone, but their culture has produced more than 20% of Nobel prize winners all time. If the Nobel prizes are awarded to those who have made the greatest contribution to the society, then can we not claim that their culture has produced more success? It is even more remarkable in that their population is less than 0.2% of the world.

When it is done and complete, what legacy will we be leaving. I hope that you agree that we want to leave a legacy saying that how great a contribution that we have made.

One of the intangible benefit that I foresee in WA is that we can be a contributor to the society by helping others through our websites. And as we help other, we also help our self. Isn't that the greatest thing?
