Blog number 100 - phone scams, spaceships and elephants
Hi,
A couple of days ago I received a call from someone called named Chris who said he represented our local Energy company. He was informing me about some new government grants available for loft insulation.
This was the second time he had called that morning and he didn't seem to be taking any account of what I said so I thought I'd have a bit of fun and test him
When he asked about my loft, I casually mentioned that I currently have a spaceship parked in there.
To my surprise, instead of being flustered or confused, Chris just rolled with it and said, "That's okay!" He then continued with his script, describing the benefits of insulation and how it might help.
I interrupted him again to explain that the situation was further complicated because I also have an elephant residing in my garden. This time he hung up.
Unfortunately, I am now getting lots of random calls where they hang up immediately? Have they put me on some sort of random dialer? I hope it stops soon!
I hope that you are all having a good day and not being interrupted by fake phone calls!!
All the best,
Julia

I totally identify with this whole telephone or telemarketer scam. It annoys me like crazy because and their timing is always bad. Trying to hard sell You, when it is more about hope selling you. I have hung up on many of those calls and at one Point had to change my phone number. They aren't really into hearing what You have to say nor are they really into hearing what You want . It's more about rushing and Pushing You into accepting what they have to offer.
😎👍
Hi, Julia
That’s hilarious!
Today, the majority is of the telemarketing speed-dialed calls in the USA are done by bots with a pre-recorded message that leads to a conversation with a real person.
Use a smartphone robo-call blocker.
I even had a “black box” for my landline phone, back in the day.
Love your AI title image! 😎

I get junk calls all the time, Julia! I simply hang up. You can block them, but there is always a work-around that they use.

Yep! Our Police Department number called me one day trying to sell me computers! I recognized the number! They have jacked my business number before too!

Hello Julia,
We seem to have a lot of spam callers now in the UK, they are also using ordinary mobile phone numbers. So for someone like me, who has to answer the phone, it appears that it could be a call for business even though it's not! I have an off-line business, where people use the telephone to contact me.
Well done for having a bit of fun with them and keeping him on his toes! Even though he wasn't even with it! It's good to have fun with cold callers sometimes. When I have time, I do the same; they always put the phone down on me for some reason!
Anyone who is working in this country knows that any government incentive will not apply to them!
I used to have a lot of people call me about my accident (even though I hadn't had an accident), sometimes I will just go along with it, and once again they put the phone down on me!
Thank you for your humour.
Have a great weekend.
Roy
Accidents!! Yes, they were a lot of those.
When I spoke to a real person, I usually said that my lawyer or accountant would handle that for me.
That's a good one, Julia, that probably makes them think!
When I had people ring up about home improvements, I have said that I live in a council house, even though I don't! There is nothing more for them to say!
Have a great Sunday.
Roy
