Wondering Whether to Open or Not Another Website!

Hey guys, how are you doing?

I woke up today thinking on the large process it takes to develop a website. Though you may start getting a couple of visitors from the very first month, it gets more in order to get hundreds or even thousands of people to come to your site periodically.

That was when I thought that maybe it's a good idea to do more than one website at a time. It could have many advantages:

  • You can apply solutions you encounter with problems twice at a time
  • You check how they are doing in comparison
  • It lets you check which topic you like the most
  • You can try different ways and different social media and check which works better

I don't know... Truth is it also has some disadvantages as it could be having to spend double time to get the same content for each of your sites, for example.

What do you think about all this?
What are you doing?

Just wanted to share my thought on this. Ill be expectant towards your responses!

Thanks a lot for reading and best of luck here at WA!

Cheers JUan

I only have one website right now, but I just started a little over a month ago so want to get this one up and running where I want it. I do eventually want to have another website.

Sounds good. Thanks for your comment! ;-]

I have more than one site because I wear more than one hat. My websites are very different from each other , though, so the content I create for one doesn't usually apply to the others most of the time. When it does, I post it to the site it applies to the most. If feasible, I would consider posting a complimentary article to another site. However, one should keep in mind that it's important not to duplicate any content verbatim. That's not advisable for optimum site health.

Yeah, I totally agree, it's not 'fair' nor intelligent to have two websites with the same content.
Good response the one with the hats, by the way, hahaha. That's a really good idea. To make another site in the moment I find a topic I want to talk about and doesn't fit on my actual website. Thanks!
Cheers, Juan

I've toyed with your idea for over a week now Juan... it's a question that appears on a regular basis at WA.

My thoughts? Concentrate and put 90% of your energy on one site but, by all means have two - or three come to that? - compile 'about me/about this site' pages on your 'dormant' site... tell anyone who does visit it what your intentions are... "Welcome, as you can see my site is under construction blah blah blah," then outline your intentions and inform them of the site that you do have up and running.

Yes, you are quite correct when you say that writing posts for two sites doubles the work load, but if an idea springs to mind regarding your dormant site - as it WILL, believe me! - it would be a shame to miss the opportunity of compiling a short post while it was still fresh in your mind.

I have two - very basic - sites, and I endeavour to spend an hour or two every couple of days posting on my second site... "putting all your eggs in one basket" CAN have disadvantages and consequences.

It will remain a moot point for some time to come me thinks :)

Great comment!
Yeah, it sounds good to have one main website and one or two others where you update content less periodically. That may be a middle point between having only one website and having two or three instead.
Thanks a lot, and best of luck!
Cheers, Juan

I'm concentrating on building my first website and will then move onto the next. I already have the domain name :)
