Things I Remember on This Day!

Hello my fellow WArriors. Hope everyone is safe and enjoying the weekend. I worked today, writing content for one of my sites, read and responded to WA blogs from all of you. Tomorrow, I will accomplish much more than I did today because I took some time from normal Wealthy Affiliate tasks, to remember the following:

76 years ago today, the American and Allied forces invaded the beaches of Normandy in France, in an attempt bring to a halt the Nazi regime, and bring an end to World War II.

My former father in law was on the boat that brought the second wave of forces to the shore. He celebrated his 18th birthday on the ship that 6th day of June, 1944.

Today I honor the men and women who served and remember the sacrifices they made for our country, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives.

One other thing I remember today is that my brother Joe, would have celebrated his 64th birthday tomorrow. In the month of June, fourteen years ago, he lost his battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was only 50 years old. A life gone too soon.

I am grateful to Wealthy Affiliate for providing a platform where we can have a voice and express our thoughts. I spoke of making sacrifices before. Here at Wealthy Affiliate, we each make some sacrifices of one kind or another to make our goals of having successful businesses become reality.

I am in no way comparing our sacrifices to those of the men and women who served on this day 76 years ago, but we do make sacrifices everyday to keep our businesses thriving.

Take time to remember the things/people that make a difference in your life. Life can change in the blink of an eye. Don't waste your opportunity to create magic and to let those you love, hear you say "I Love You"!

We still have a few Brit lads left who landed on those beaches back 76 years ago and they usually have the chance to go back year on year but of course not this year.

Each year those chaps don't know if that'll be their last visit but now there'll be at least 2 years between anniversary visits and at such advanced years some will sadly not make it again.

Respect to your former FIL Barbara and sorry to hear that your brother was taken way too early on that date too.

One of the most memorable opening film scenes just has to be that of Saving Private Ryan....nearly half an hour long and horrifying and spellbinding yet probably doesn't even begin to compare what those guys went through.

Imagine being on a landing boat with the front about to go down knowing you are going to be torn to bits by enemy machine gun fire. Doesn't bare thinking about.

We salute and honour them all.

Thanks for posting Barbara.

Thank you Mark for your input and your kind words regarding my brother.

You're welcome Barbara, have a lovely day.

I will certainly try. Same to you.

Horrific scenes, indeed, but probably doesn't even come close, Mark! Sure tests one's faith for sure! I salute all those brave souls who did what had to be done to bring a halt to the horrific Nazi War machine!

Likewise Jeff, I bet you saw some sights yourself?

Not like that, Mark!

That’s a great story!

You may not know that our victory on D Day was in no small part due to the fact that Alan Turing decoded the cipher for the German’s “Enigma” code machine. Tonight I watched one of my favorite movies, “The Imitation Game”, in honor of this day.
If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend that you do.

Frank, thank you for sharing that bit of information with us. I will have to watch the movie sometime.

The movie description on IMDB sounds very "mathy" and "computer nerdy" but it's not that at all. Benedict Cumberbatch is one of my favorite British actors. Just watch the movie trailer and you will be hooked. It's a great drama about the man that is credited with inventing the very first computer and using it to win the war.
Here is the URL. Just put the two pieces together:

For some reason, putting URLs in posts seems to be discouraged here.

Thank you Frank, I will check it out.

Awww This post just touched my heart. I am very sentimental, when someone gets hurt or gets killed or commits suicide, I close my eyes and imagine the look on their face of the pain they were feeling and it deeply touches me. My website has to do with bullying and believe me when I am doing research I read thing that have me in tears. I want to thank you for sharing this story with us.
Best wishes always,
Miriam

Great thoughts. We should all remember the sacrifices made by the Greatest 'Generation. Not just on special days but every day.

Very beautiful blog post. I'm very moved that you took the time today to honor those men and women who sacrificed everything for people they never even knew. Your ex-father in-law must had been an amazing person. To be a 17 year old child turned man on a ship to a foreign land not knowing if you will live or die as soon as you get off the ship. I could never imagine having to go through that or having the courage to keep moving forwards as people are shooting at you.
thank you for honoring those people, Jason
