Sticking with it
It's been a loong time since my last post here in WA.It's my 3rd year now in WA.Sad to say i don't have much to show for it.No blockbuster blog to brag about No multiple income stream to show off
But one thing i do know. And that is i have grown.Little by little my skill have improved.
Having a full-time job as a seafarer cook presents many challenges
Being abroad and most of the time out on the open seas.Really hampers my blogging growth. Most of the tme i don't have an internet signal. The only chance i got was during anchorage and when my ship goes along side
For two years i let this be my excuse for nothing to show
Especially the first year.My gosh i foolish to think that i can depend on outsourcing for the bulk of work on running a blog. The first year was wasted haggling with writers and researchers. The first post i made was outsourced from some writer i found in fiverr.
I was a bit disappointed because it's something i could have done myself. All the flash and hype i read on the writers profiles did not lived up to my expectation.
I realize that the best way to go is to grow naturally. There is no way around it.If you want to have good content you have to become a writer yourself. And that involves practice and hardwork.
After the first year i realize that if i want something to change i have to change.
If you want to produce search engine friendly content you have to learn SEO.
You dont get that by just dumping 20 dollars to some writer in bangladesh
I cannot let a 13 hour a day 7 days a week job get in my way.If i want this blog to work i have to find the time and energy to do the required tasks in running a blog.
When i first finished the training the teaching never really sinked in.It is not after i got home after going onboard for ten months did i put in the serious effort unto my blog
The second year of my blogging was perfect timing.I got of the ship. And i have time.It maybe limited but i made sure i made the full use of it.
In my 5 months vacation i was able to make 10 posts atleast a 1000 word each.It may not be much to others. But for me it's a big deal after all.Just a year before i could not imagine myself publishing my very own post.
Although the quality of my post still sucks. It's a big improvement from the year before.Atleast now i'm publishing. And not relying to outsourcing my content
It all in my headThis is my 3rd year now with blogging. And it make's me think that there's this mental aspect to blogging.I am beginning to think that if your mindset is screwed then your blog is screwed as well.
I used to think that i can't write anymore i'm too tired
And that there is no time for me to work on my blog
That there is no internet signal you can't work on your blog
But then again i started to question myself. I am too tired but why to i find the energy to watch a film
I keep on telling myself i don't have time but why do i spend time reading post of people i don't even like on Facebook.
Yes most of the time i don't have access to the internet. But other parts of blogging does not need internet.
So instead of listening to the little voice inside my head.I asked myself why not try i have nothing to lose.
So i did, after my evening work in the galley.I started to work on my content. It's around 8 pm and i just got of from work.Instead of chilling on my chair and popping the newest movie i got from a colloege.I did the opposite.
I opened a word document and started typing.Just some random ideas for a post. You know, just to start the creative juice from flowing. It's not much but it's a start
I ended up with some post ideas that i can work on.I'm big on planning.I don't do anything without a plan or atleast an idea of what to do next.
From this ideas i brainstormed for a post.I came up with a draft.I keep on adding on to it atleast a few hundred words each night.I figured i don't have much time to spare.I have only around 2 hours of free time.I have to make this two hours count.
I made it into a habit of adding atleast 200-300 hundred word to my post each night. This may not much to other people's standard. But for a guy who works atleast 13 hours a day everyday. This is quite an accomplishment already
Thank fully i was able to produce in my latest contract 3 4000 word post.
You have to think long termI just got off the ship 3 weeks ago.And i took some well deserved rest.I continue to my writng habit. But this time since i have a lot more free time i am going to increase my out put.I am even able to apply SEO into my posts thanks to my training.I know it's kinda late but the knowledge is starting to kick in.I am even applying social media in my blogging.
For the long term i plan to improve on my habits.Add new one and get rid of bad habits and perceptions.Thankfully i have a wife that supports me.She may not totally understand what i actually do.But she see's that i am happy and that i am focused. So she is happy as well.
The point of this post is that i may not be seing any big result. And i have not may any penny with my blogs. But i am will to stick with this thing. And i am going to see this through
Sometime all you have is faith and effort. You may not see it.But you know it's there all you have to do is put one word at a time.Read one page at a time. And keep on connecting with people
