Freedom to enjoy life

I recently read a post from a fellow WA member. In it, the question about society's skewed view of what is considered success. The post related how society encourages our children to pursue a graduate education by getting into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Generally speaking, few college graduates make the six figure income promised to them.

Most college graduates, fail to finish their education while accumulating debts between 50K to 175k. The sad truth is faced when post graduate school they are told that in order to get their license it is required to them to work for two years (post graduate work) for free.

My wife is the person I am speaking about. She went to graduate school and in order to get licensed in she is required to work under a licensed practitioner for 100 weeks 10-20 hours per week of pro-bono work. Her student loans are in excess of $150k which she will never make in a single year of working and perpetuating the "rat race".

I have found that so many of my friends look down and doubt the "online marketing' opportunity. I find myself defending the fact that with half the effort most of us put into our day-time jobs they could be making thousands of dollars within the online marketing careers.

"Yes," I said online marketing career. At WA, we are privileged as this is a community that emphasizes education and learning through helping one another (through sharing our experiences). At the end of each of my training, I have always had the support of not only Kyle, Carson, and the entire WA community.

When my wife and I completed our degrees, we had none of our professors grabbing us by the hand to guide us on where to go. And at the end of the game, we finished our education in debt and working for Corporate America (on average 50-80 hours per week).

Makes one think (???) ....

What would you prefer? Master Degree or PHD ($150+K in debt)

Hi Jorge,
Isn't that graduation a funny process? I was luckily approved to a Brazilian Federal University' for a BA in Economics where the costs for the graduation were subsidized so I could afford to pay my annual fee without any problem with my part-time job but my two sons I steep in and paid for their university student loan. Lucky guys.
Well written Jorge.
Marcus

Thanks Marcus for the positive feedback. It is concerning to see the astronomical cost of higher education. I completely advocate for all who want to pursue a higher education degree to do so. It would be great if those who choose to do so to be able to obtain that degree free of student loans. Thanks,

Jorge

That's a "no brainer"!

Laurel

Thank you Laurel for the positive feedback.

Jorge

I said the same thing! Lo!

I was blessed with a master's degree and no debt. However, I agree with you that the college debt is outrageous. I still think students ought to continue their education when possible, but they need to join WA to help pay for it.

Thanks,
Dottie

Dottie,

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I agree with you that an education is important. WA would be the perfect opportunity to complete it without a enormous debt.

Stay in touch and thanks,

Jorge

You must do what you believe in, that is right for you, and ignore the kill joys.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I agree with you that one must do what you believe it is right. Many young people do not know what they want and I feel that providing them with the information that there are other choices would be beneficial for some.

I wrote the blog because I know many who failed to complete their education and are now having to repay loans they cannot afford to pay back.

Thanks again,

Jorge

as someone with a PhD in Education and zero student loan debt for more then 25 years I disagree and I'm living proof of the opposite of your proposition.

As you stated, you have a PhD in Education, from 25 years ago.

The current statistics support my statement. The student loans debt in the US, according to Market-Watch, stands at 1.4 trillion dollars, that’s the second-highest level of consumer debt behind only mortgages, and about $620 billion more than the total U.S. credit card debt.

Furthermore, statistics show that 40 million Americans hold student loans and about 70% of bachelor’s degree recipients graduate with debt. The statistics do not include the federal funds covered by pell-grants and private scholarships.

This information was not an opinion; unfortunately for 2018, this is the reality. My blog was not meant to put down the importance of an education after all I and my wife hold university degrees. However, the reality that holding a degree does not guarantee employment, financial freedom, nor fulfillment.

Thank you for your feedback,

Jorge

Jorge

Jorge

Any time! That's what makes WA so great! Our teamwork and friendliness toward one another.

The right system. We are never told about this is school. That is sad that creativity is downplayed but conformity is elevated. Makes on wonder does it not?
Jerry

Absolutely Jerry.

Most schools are duplicating the same system over and over. We are not teaching to explore and create.

Thanks for the feedback,

Jorge

That is why our schools are no longer first in any category.
Jerry

Absolutely agree Jerry.
