The importance of having a good data storage strategy.
Hello people,
I would like to provide you with a framework for storing all those little and not so little details you need to keep at your fingertips for this business.
We are avalanched with so much information to retain that it is difficult to keep an handle on it.
Check below the typical type of data storage model you should design for yourself.
Of course, this is only a suggestion and one size does not fit all but it a basis to work from.
only mention 1 Website data folder above but it should be replicated to how many site you have (with the subfolders suggested, of course).
Apart from having this structure setup on your computer, you should keep a pen handy with a backup of everything.
The last task of each day should be to backup the day's data on to the pen!
IAs an added precaution so that the information contained does not fall in the wrong hands check out a free encryption program called TRUECRYPT to store one container with everything in it.

I ma glad you like it and as I mentioned before with the amount of information coming in one has to keep it categorized, very much like the layout of a website as known as "sitemap".
This was just a little sketch, you can tailor it with more or less option according to what what works for you.
I have something set up like yours and backed up on a separate hard-drive. You talked about backing up daily on a pen please explain what you mean by pen. Thank you.

A "pen" or "pendrive" is a small USB storage device /stick, ironkey. (largely has replaced the CD or DVD in the computer world for its size and portability.
In essence, it is a small pocket size device that you insert on a USB port to save your information, thus being to "transport" your business anywhere, holiday /recovery from accident or a fire, you name it!
I hope that have clarified the term PEN to you.

Great post Jonicas, When I first started 5 yrs ago I used to have my files spread out every where. Till I employed a system similar.
