From Orange to Green: How I Finally Made Peace with SEO

Let me be honest. For the longest time, “Meta Titles” and “Meta Descriptions” sounded like fancy words SEO experts used to sound smart. I thought I was already doing great with my keywords, plugins, and “technical SEO.” You know that confident moment before you realize you actually missed the point? Yeah, that was me.

Then came Jay Neill’s SEO classes. I pressed play thinking I’d just “check them out.” Ten minutes in, I was scribbling notes like a college kid before exams. Suddenly, everything started making sense. It felt like discovering that your house had windows you never opened before. Fresh air, finally.

After watching those sessions, I rolled up my sleeves. I tweaked my posts, fixed those odd titles, and cleaned up the messy descriptions that I once thought were fine. Yes, SEO Framework automatically picked these titles and descriptions from the posts/articles themselves. I tell you. I have very long meta titles and meta description beyond the recommended lengths.

Bing Webmaster Tools even gave me a few sarcastic notes. It’s like Bing was saying, “Took you long enough, John.” But hey, it worked. It showed me what SEO framework don't. Images with no alt texts, articles and pages with no H1, H2, etc., and much more. As was editing all these elements, boom!

My Site Health on WA hosting moved from orange to green. That green color didn’t just glow. It sang. I sat there for a while, staring at it like it was the sunrise over the Sobat River. I didn't know it could turn green. In fact, I never paid any attention to it before. Yes, other factors apply here to make it turn green. But it wasn't green before regardless of these factors, such as the number of posts published and comments.

Site Health is Awesome

Over the last two weeks, I’ve been at it again. Updating meta titles, refining meta descriptions, and crafting TL; DR (Too Long, Didn't Read) sections for AI summaries. I didn’t expect instant miracles, but something beautiful happened. My site visitors went from 1.1K to 1.3K in the same week. Not huge, but definitely a sign that Google and Bing are finally smiling at me. Not only that, but I'm also seeing user engagement increase, and old visitors coming back!

You know, SEO can feel like planting groundnuts. You bury the seeds, water them, wait, and sometimes wonder if you buried them too deep. But then, a green shoot breaks through. That’s what this week felt like. A small green shoot of progress. Are you smiling with me now? I guess you are. I am!

So, if you haven’t watched Jay’s SEO classes yet, please do. Don’t walk; run. He explains things like a teacher who knows you’ve been skipping class but still believes in you. His lessons make SEO less like a mystery and more like common sense. That's how it feels to me. I have used YoastSEO plug-in before and several other tools. I've even taken free classes, but this is unique.

We all dream of seeing more traffic, more clicks, and more readers. But none of that happens without learning the language of search engines. And now, I finally speak a few words of it. Still got an accent, but I’m learning. And yes, don't ignore search intent, even though this is still my struggle. Traffic, relevant traffic, matters in online business. Don't ignore it. Take the class, take notes, take action, step-by-step, and you might see results afterwards.

Friends, if your site health is still orange, or even red, don’t panic. That color doesn’t mean failure. It just means growth is waiting. The trick is to stay curious, stay humble, and keep learning. I encourage you to take time to make it look green because it's not just colors but a sign of your site health, measured from several factors.
