Building a home page

I've never built a home page before. In the beginning, everything was new and weird. But good motivation and hard work, I made a good start in building the home page.
The hardest part has been the customizability of the home page to what I would like. And I can't find or know where to find the features I see on different pages that I would like for my page. And I still don't fully understand if it is related to a theme or something else. I've tried everything but I do not know how to do the functions of my pages.I'm also a little bit careful to use a variety of images or youtube videos on my site when I'm not quite sure of intellectual property rights in connection therewith. Would it be nice if someone could help with this eg is it legal to link someone else's youtube video to my page without asking it?
Making money and getting traffic to my homepage seems like a distant dream. But it's under construction :)
