Goodbye my sweet "Lassie"

My Heidi

I said goodbye to my sweet, precious girl, Heidi on Sunday and I am absolutely brokenhearted. She was 12 1/2 yrs old. She took a turn for the worst. In a matter of hours she kept limping on her bad leg that had a cancerous tumor on it and she was in pain. Her leg got swollen as well. It was her time.

Our family is devastated. Life won't be the same without her. The house is so "empty" now. She will be forever loved and missed.

My niche was about dogs and I have no motivation to write now. It just hurts so much.

Jennifer

Oh my! We know exactly how you feel as we have had to go through this twice ourselves, already.
Have you read the poem "The Rainbow Bridge"?
You will have to go through some terrible grieving right now. Hold on to something of hers and allow yourself to cry. You need to do this.
She is so beautiful. Rough Collies have wonderful natures and really bond to their people, as herders. We had a pet business in Scottsdale AZ for many years and we adore dogs.
Our hearts are with you. We are so sorry. She was so loved by you.
Dogs are oxygen for our souls.
Read the poem if you haven't done so already.
Big hug to you, Jennifer.
Colette and Philip

Hi there. I have not read the poem yet but I want to. I'm sure it will make me cry. Collies are wonderful dogs. We lost another one about 2 yrs ago. Now the house is empty. I will definitely get another dog soon.

Thank you so much Colette and Philip for your kind words of comfort. I really need that now.

Couldn't stop thinking about you yesterday and cried for you, too. The pain is awful.
Yes, you must get another dog asap. We have made sure we were not dogless when close to losing one of the others. Couldn't bear to come home and not have a wagging tail.
It's okay to cry!
Her pawprints are on your heart forever and she will always be with you. Another soul is out there, waiting for your love.
C & P

Aww...such a sweet message. We are moving in 2 mos into a new house so we will have to wait til then to get a dog as it would be hectic for all of us during that time. I am so looking forward to it though.
I have been crying for my girl. I feel like I haven't seen her in months when it's only been part of week.
It is comforting knowing she will always be with me. Maybe she will reincarnate into my next dog lol. I know, not likely.
Thank you again for your comment.

Hi Jen,

Quite a middle aged collie!..It may be sometime but you will see her again...It's not just people who go to heaven...

Take your time out and when you are better, write a memorial in your posts for her.

And when you are totally recovered, get another one...She will never be replaced, but at least the house won't be so empty.

Much love,
Stella

Stella, that sounds like a good idea about a memorial. I definitely need to wait a while though. I really do want to get another one since I love dogs so much. Thank you for your comment.

I am so sorry. She was beautiful. Like a person, I'm sure that she wants you to be happy and to be able to think about all of the good times you had together.

Maybe at some point in the future, you might feel motivated to blog about something that deals with how to cope with the end of life challenges, problems and grief.

Thank you for sharing her pictures. Again, I'm sorry. Hugs.

Hi Sondra. We have lots of photos and videos of her to look back at.

I probably will use your idea to write about how to cope with the passing of a pet.

Thank you so much for commenting.

I know how you feel we have lost 2 dogs in the past year and they had a good life but I have another one that is 12 and I hope she keeps going. But I know it is going to hurt my heart when she goes because she was the kids favorite. But hang in there maybe when you can buy another puppy just like her and name her the same but with the Lassie Jr. Peace hope all goes well.

I do want to find another puppy just like her. She was a sweetheart. Hope your other dog stays around a long time. Thank you so much for commenting, Anthony.

We have two dogs. Our cat died a couple of weeks ago, at home, in my lap. It is so difficult. We had taken him to the vet for limping and swelling on his right front paw. The vet sent us home with aspirin. We took him back the next week they gave some antibiotics. He was losing weight quickly, eating all the time and vomiting too. You could tell he wasn't feeling good but he wasn't in pain.

It's so difficult to lose pets. I had started feeding our boys better foods after we got our dogs.

The limping and swelling on the paw sounds like what my dog had. She also had a cancerous tumor on the upper leg. So sorry about your cat. It is very hard to deal with the loss. The pain just does not go away. At least for quite a while. Thank you, Janina.

I have 3 dogs right now all of them around that age or older. I couldn't tell you which is gonna go first as they seem to be deteriorating equally. They could go on the same day for all I know. But I guess my point is you only feel this bad now because it was that good to have her around. You loved her and gave her a good life and that's all she could ask for. I know you could never truly replace her, but if your passion is dogs then you will probably need another one in your life. Think of her and smile, and if you get lonely there is another dog out there somewhere that needs your love as much as you need theirs.

Gosh, we gave her the best life full of love. I will definitely get another dog. I really need a dog in my life as they are so special. Take care of your 3 babies. Thank you so much for your kind words, Zack.

Hi Jennifer, we get so attached to our pets. They become important parts of our lives and always love us unconditionally. They only thing they can't do is talk. I understand not being able to write now, however, maybe Lassie's legacy will give you focus in the future and make your niche even better.

Sorry for your loss!

My dog was my child. They sure do become so important in your life.

Eventually, I will feel better but it just takes time. Thank you for your kind words, Calvin.

You're welcome.....hang in there!

Oh she is gorgeous Jennifer. I am so so sorry. I have lost many dogs over the years and it still hurts to think about them. I miss the so much I am about to cry just writing this.

I wish I could help but I know you must have given her a very loving home which is the best thing you could do for her.

I hope you feel better,
Jessica

Thank you, Jessica. It was making me cry to write this post. We did give Heidi a very loving home any dog could ask for. That makes me feel good.

The hurt will lessen in time.

Awwww so sorry to hear that.

I had a dog named Murphy when I was a child. He was amazing. I still miss him loads.

When I think of him I smile now and not cry. Its a hard loss to get over. I hope you get to the point I am. I feel so happy and lucky he was in my life.

It will get easier.

Aiesha

Thank you, Aiesha for telling me about your dog. I'm sure eventually I will reach that point. It just takes time.

Hi Jennifer, I am so sorry. OMG, pets are such a huge factor in a life that has them. They become our children, and in which we treat them. 12 1/2 years is not long enough. I have a lab (Moose) and he has been with me for 9 years this February and I couldn't imagine life without him.
My heart goes out to you and your family.

Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. Gosh I wish I could have even another year with her. Dogs are so very special.
