Creating Content

If you've ever seen the movie "Funny Farm" You may know how I first felt when I sat down to begin adding content to my new site. In the movie, Chevy Chase sat down (at his typewriter) to begin writing the "great American Novel". He poised his fingers over the keys AND....nothing. Nothing came to him! Writers block? Maybe.

My point? Writing content doesn't always come immediately but it is certainly much easier if you have chosen a niche with which you have some experience.

When I started, my mind seemed to go blank but I think it was really going to work and would reveal itself when ready.

At first a few ideas would come to me then more and more. My mind was flooded with ideas but they weren't always cohesive. Just random ideas that needed some order.

With persistence, I found that the words began to roll off of my fingertips and my ideas were congealing into a train of thought that the rest of the world might actually understand.

I've come to a point where my site is like a new relationship (creepy?). It occupies my thoughts throughout the day, morning to night. I've even strayed and have had thoughts about some other sites and my current site is getting jealous lol.

Anyway, my point is that artists create and writers write. So start creating content and it will be created.

I cannot agree more with you on the point that writers write. It is what we know how to do best. It is even a mplus if you enjoy writing like me. Once I start writing it is difficult for me to stop. I have to learn to control myself.

Thank you Jeff for the wonderful post.

Thank you for your kind words. There are some compulsions that are actually good for you. I think that writing is one of them. Write On!

I had an experience where for 2 days or so everything I had in my mind came flooding out and onto my website. I don't know how long I was writing continuously, but by the start of that time I had pretty much all my pages setup but not much on them. Amazingly I just filled them up within those 2 days. I guess it was because I knew my subject and it was like I was "just getting it all out". I still find it amazing to this day how quickly that happened, but that was really because I knew what I wanted to say and had to "get it out".
Well, that's the fastest way I know to build a website (personal knowledge) but not necessarily the quickest way to a high google ranking! Best of luck to you Jeffster.

Thank you. As they say, do what you know and love and you'll never work a day in your life. All the best to you as well.

This is good advice thanks
