The reality is not quite that simple. Many people struggle with self motivation, myself included, especially if you work a full time day job. It's hard to get yourself motivated to get on the computer and get some work done.
I intend to replace my day job income with income from my online efforts, so that should be motivation enough to get me moving; because, let's face it. For most of us a day job is drudgery and not a happy place to be. The longer it takes to replace your day job with an online income the longer you'll be in that unhappy situation.

Work Environment
To be successful you need to treat this endeavor like any business. Being in the right environment will help you to be more productive and get those creative juices flowing. I have a home office where I can be away from the distractions and obligations that come with any home environment. Sure I take breaks when I'm in the midst of a mental block but I return to my work space when the floodgates open again. I separate my work time from leisure and domestic duties.
The office space should still be a place where you feel relaxed and comfortable. Surround yourself with things that motivate and inspire you.
Do whatever it takes to get yourself in the right mental state. Listen to your favorite music, motivational speakers, meditate... whatever works for you.
I find physical exercise really helps get the creative juices flowing. I have some of my best ideas when I'm working out, playing tennis or just hitting some balls against the wall. I keep a notepad or my iphone nearby so I can jot down ideas and solutions to problems as they come.
