Starting a Journey
Well, here I am. After eighteen years as an IT professional at a major financial institution, I was let go when it was bought by a larger bank. I decided to bail on the corporate world and started a franchise. After four years, I fired myself from that business because it wasn't making any money. So I'm thinking about reentering the corporate world and everywhere I go the door is slammed in my face. I've got two major strikes against me: my age, and the fact I've not worked in my field for four years.
So one day on a whim I'm searching for work-at-home opportunities and I stumble across Wealthy Affiliate. I'd heard about people making money from blogging, and about people making money from Amazon.com. Never thought of it as a career opportunity however. But I'm reading a lot of testimonials from others and they give me hope, so I'm giving it a shot.

Great place to start you internet marketing career and I am sure the training here will take you very far.
I am currently majoring in Management Information Systems and want to enter into the IT world. But hearing stories such as yours only tell me that it is likely not a long term kind of thing.

Thank you JSKentopp - my major piece of advice for any young person working in IT (or any business actually). Don't work for any company that is so large they have divisions all over the world. You will find that they move jobs across national borders on a whim. I had a boss who was transferred to Singapore, another co-worker moved from Great Britain to Singapore. These were permanent moves, and were most likely mandated (move or get fired). I was asked to move from New Jersey to Florida (an opportunity I heartily accepted), but the takeover and subsequent layoff happened soon thereafter, leaving me pretty much out of my IT network in New Jersey.
Thanks for the advice. I hope that I can get moving with my site and here at WA by the time I am out of college. Honestly, I am really passionate about entrepreneurship and marketing. I mostly want to major in tech because my parents told majoring in something like business with an entrepreneurial track, would be a waste of time and serve no purpose.
I appreciate the time you took to share your experience with me. It motivates me to further my career as an entrepreneur and building my own business.
By the way, I also live in Florida. I am located further south in Miami. Its nice to connect with someone in my state :)
