Embarrassing Typos

Looking back on some of my comments here at WA... I have made some pretty embarassing typos. I see them and I just think, wow did I actually post that and NOT see the glaring in-your-face typo?

I will say (and this isn't an excuse) I do have dyslexia, which can make picking up on typos a bit harder, but I have done enough work in editing that I should be able to spot the bad ones. I pride myself on my editing skills, as I've done a lot of training in editing and proofreading and have done it for others, but when it comes to my own writing... eek! From now on I need to go through my writing here more carefully. For my websites, I use Grammarly, but I didn't think I needed to edit my comments, lol! I hope I haven't offended anyone with my typos!

*Almost just published this with the title spelt "embarassing" missing an "r" lo

My typing has never been great more so my spelling lol. I find Grammerly an amazing tool. You install it into chrome and it highlights these mistake and suggest corrections.
Since using my writing style has dramatically improved.

Yeah my spelling is always way off lol. I love Grammarly, too! I always use it when writing for my site because I'm on my computer, but most of my comments I write on my phone so no spell check, lol. I'm glad to hear it's working for you and your writing has improved! :)

Yeah its great dont know how I didnt know.about Grammarly before lol

We all get it wrong from time to time - and it's easy to do. One problem is that we tend to read sentences in our heads the way that they are meant to be, rather than how they actually look on paper (or screen). As a result, it's very possible to miss glaring errors even after multiple readthroughs.

This is how I am to a tee. My dyslexia makes me think that I have written one thing when in reality it is totally different from what I had in my head, lol. As a result I end up reading something close to 5 times over before I see the mistake, lol :)

It's important to remember that everybody does it.

I still spot errors on published posts from big players in our field from time to time, so don't be too hard on yourself.

I will remember that. Thank you :)

I think sometimes we just need to learn from it, and move on as we strive to do better.

Yes, this has been my attitude towards my mistakes. I always learn from them... some are just pretty embarrassing, though :)

Remember we all at some point experiences that, a line in one of my favorite songs says "what doesn't kill you", makes you stronger", so lol and move on.

Yes, this is very true! That is what I am going to do :)

So just an FYI. We've actually gone over this in Live Chat quite a few times, because people will do the *correction to correct their typos. If it messes up the meaning, you definitely want to catch. If it doesn't, most people probably won't notice. :)

I can be a freak about my own grammar too though, unless I get typing fast and sometimes I'll miss things. But like I said, you'll probably notice it more than anyone else will. :)

Some are not that bad, but some I correct. There was one the other day that ended up as inappropriate language which I later realized and corrected... it was not my finest moment, lol, but the person whose post I commented on was okay with it and knew it was a mistake :)

LOL I actually saw a post like that just today. Someone had meant to say "assess" but forgot the last "s" :) Happens to us all I'd imagine.

Lol, yeah, I guess we just have to make light of it and move on
