I thought this was easy!

Hey everyone!

Until about two-and-a-half weeks ago, I thought that I understood editing in WP and felt really comfortable doing it. Now, when I say comfortable,I'm certain that I am not talking about the expert level, but back in the early day of HTML, I wrote simple web pages and, while I don't remember much about how to do that at all, I can easily remember enough to say that WP is WAY easier than that was! So, while I've been toying with WP over the last few months, I have become comfortable with it.

But something has changed.

No, I didn't upgrade to 5.0, although, being new at it, I might agree that the sooner I start adapting to the change, the better my half-century old brain will understand it. The change I'm talking about is different from that.

I notice that when I create an article in Site Content then publish it, I can go over to WP and edit it, adding images, captions, hyperlinks..whatever and it comes out pretty much the way that I want it to. I save it and I'm done.

But later, I'm surfing the wikimedia commons for a pic and find something that is better for my article than a picture that I have in it, so I download it, I go upload it to my article in the same place. It looks great in the editor, but then I publish it and go to view it and now all the text formatting is messed up by not leaving an entire block of text next to a picture, just the single line where I clicked to place the pic.

Odd as this seems, it only happens when I place a picture on the LEFT of the text.

So now, as I start to see complaints about the new 5.0, I am wondering if WP has changed something so that I would feel compelled to convert. Well, I am. In fact, because I need to start learning this now, I am going to convert now (After I make sure my theme is compatible).

I had to mention this. Do any of you experience this same issue with 4.9.8?

Do any of you have a theory on how to overcome this text formatting loss?

Thanks for reading!

Good post.
Jerry

Yes, John, I have experinced this issues with WP too, and also with Phase 5 (html) built website and three other websites I built with building kit.

Seems to me there are some requirements for spacing for images and especially if they are close to titles. If you put an image too close to the title, it doesn't convert nicely into the website even though it looks fine in the editor.

Maybe this is helping you a little, although it doesn't fix the problem.

Aloha, Jenna

I hadn't heard that about being too close to the titles. I will go back and look at my articles to see if that might be the issue.

Either way, I'm still perplexed because the editor seems to do what I want on the initial edit. It's only if I change something do things go awry.

Thanks again, Jenna!

Thank you, John!

Yes, working in already posted/edited blog; changing pictures or dimensions make it harder. This I experienced too.

Let me know if you find any patterns of this bad behaving! :-)

Aloha, Jenna

I hope they didn't change something just to make us convert. Seems about 50/50 on who likes the 5.0. I went back to Classic Editor.
