Praise Your Real Blessings

Well, we survived another Thanksgiving feast, Uncle Ernie, and associated traffic. I prefer to stay at home but this year some wonderful friends invited us to share in their celebration and it was just wonderful. Thank You, Mini and Dean!

I try to take some alone time on days like that to reflect on the many blessings poured out on us. Like someone much more famous than me, my cup is full, tapped down, and filled to overflowing.

I will start with the inner circle. Thank you, Carmela and Little David for graciously putting up with my constant (and sometimes frenetic) pushing forward in an attempt to serve and provide for those who count on me. The next layer that I want to thank is our children for growing up to be such wonderful people and being patient with me while I leaned into the wind. (Usually that is only reserved for take-offs). Thank you friends for your patient ears and caring guidance. I also want to thank all the people I know who so freely share their heartfelt encouragement in my task here.

I have lived a life so filled with joy and blessings that I should never whine. That fear-of-failure monster gobbled up so much of that life and kept me from being all that God meant me to be. When I look at the very short excerpt above, the list of things I am grateful for, I am pleased to find that it is the people around me who are the real blessings. I didn't feel a need to talk about a single material thing as a blessing. They were/are nice but not praiseworthy. It is just stuff.

Thank you all as well for taking the time to read this attempt of mine to shine a light on the important things in all of our lives.

Please, enjoy your holidays and the fact that they give you time to spend with your top-of-the-list of blessings. Be careful if you travel. Remember the words of that wise old philosopher who said, "Who loves you baby". By the way, that wasn't a question, it was a reminder!
