Passion Enables Perseverance - The Wisdom of Steve Jobs

Hi all,

This is only my third blog at WA. I determined very early that I'd only contribute if I felt my blog could offer genuine value to the community - that it should be something worthy of reflection.

Others have contributed with such generosity and frequency and offered such great perspectives that I didn't want to simply rehash and grab a free ride on their coat tails.

So here it is: Yesterday, I was doing some research about Apple and accidentally came across some soundbites from Steve Jobs that stopped me in my tracks.

In my WA review, I offer the following advice on niche selection: "Before you commence work on your blog or website you must decide on your market niche – your specific area of expertise. The niche should relate to a subject that you feel passionately about or understand very well. In an ideal world, it should serve both purposes."

Having listened to Steve Jobs, I now firmly believe that passion trumps any amount of experience. I've transcribed a few comments by the great visionary that I hope will scaffold your determination for success.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work."

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do."

"You’ve got to find what you love, and that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers."

"The ones that were successful loved what they did so they could persevere when it got really tough. The ones who didn’t love it quit – because they were sane!

"You’ve got to love it. You’ve got to have passion."

“If you’re going to start something new, you have to feel really passionate about it because it’s really hard ... it’s so hard that if you’re not passionate about it you’ll give up.”

“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance. It is so hard, you pour so much of your life into this thing. There are such rough moments in time that most people will give up. I don’t blame them it’s really tough. It consumes your life ... Unless you have a lot of passion about this; you’re not going to survive. You’re going to give it up.”

I asked myself three questions:

  1. What niche would Steve Jobs have selected?
  2. Would he have given up on his niche?
  3. Would he have become a super affiliate?

I believe I can answer questions two and three.

Have a great day?

Henri

I think you are correct Henry.
He would not have given up and he would have become a super affiliate.
