What Self-Mastery Means to Me.

Within the past few months, I have learned a great deal about myself. And I keep looking at one phrase. Two words that have a multitude of definitions and multiple variations of meaning for different people. The phrase that I am referring to, of course (for anyone who read the title of the blog), is self-mastery. And that is one loaded phrase at the moment.
For over two years now, I have been working on "gettting through my head." In other words, finding the mental blocks that I had in place and obliterating them. It's been an amazing journey so far and I have made a great deal of progress. I do have things that tend to challenge me more than others, and one of those things is self-discipline.
I can force myself to sit down and work and force myself to get things done. However, it would be nicer to be able to simply check my calendar, and then go about doing the item listed there at the allotted time. Which leads to my other challenge of time-management. To be honest, these have been considerable challenges for me; however, I have discovered through various teachers that I follow, that there are keys to self-mastery.

One of the most critical is FOCUS. Man, when I can sit down and really focus, I get SO MUCH work done! But when I am not focused and "all over the place," I am not effective at all. Distracted and scattered. When you are able to focus, you can change the world. The most effective tool that helps me get in line and focus on what I need to do is meditation.
Two years ago, I would have called total bullshit on that one...now, I feel so out of alignment with my world if I don't take the time to quiet my mind. It is utterly transformative and incredible what five to fifteen minutes of deliberate silence will do for you.
When you can focus, you can live your intention. Live deliberately. Focus on what you need to do in order to get another step closer to your goals. Be on purpose. Do things on purpose and with purpose. Once you can master your focus, you will find that self-discipline is automatic. You will find that it is easier to be more deliberate when you are on time. Use your time wisely. How many times did we here THAT back in high school???
Self-mastery is a key to launching your life intentionally in a direction that will get you closer to your goals. Master your life and live with intention. You will create something amazing, beautiful and uniquely you.
