Can you serve two masters?
The last weeks reflection
We all are looking for opportunities to enhance our life-experience. To make it more comfortable, more easy and more rich in many aspects.
It is funny that we suddenly find ourselves in a situation which feels and is more worse than the "normal" life we had before.
This takes us then often a long time to accept and when we reflect our actions we realize that we are serving two masters. but to serve two masters the same time doesen't work.
We find ourselfs, like in Goldoni's masterpiece of stage art, in a comedy full of entanglements.
To be clever is not enough
I thought, after my failor with the fashion business, that I make it very clever. I followed the kick of my heart and started to create a concept that allows me to transport my knowledge and coachings through an online solution.
Before I realized what happens I was serving two masters!
1. My very well visited practice for counselling, supervision and coaching
2. The online presence to give training and coachings
Because it is the same content it doesn't mean it is only one master. This I had to face the last months.
To build an online business is like building a new company, even the service and content is the same like you have in your existing company.
How much more then if you have two completely different services and contents?
I am sure you can serve your two masters for a short while but you have to decide from a certain point on, which master you serve. Or how you balance the focus between them that one is the master and the other one your friend.
If you wait too long then one of both masters will disappear. And this happens because you will automatically take off your focus from the one master to serve the other one...
I wish you a good decision on your way to abundance!
Love, Martin

Well, i depends if the masters work for us, well, that is easy.

We are the Head, not the tail.

Without us, no business goes on.
This is very true and the analogy was not meant in the sense that we are the tails of what we are doing. It was meant in the sense of focus...

Hi Martin..... is having two websites dealing with totally different niches the same as having two masters?
I suppose..... it comes down to whether you have the ability to treat with them equally... so one wouldn't "suffer"......
I believe that I am working to become the boss and equally balanced work on both websites is just right.
Hi Shawn, a very important question!
From my point of view, it is definitely not because the master you serve, according to my analogy, is to be an online entrepreneur. Although also here you must be sure that you can give a balanced input to both sites in order to let them grow...
I hope this was helpful for you...

Great advice. "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other" from the Bible.
Great description of what people deal with who start this online journey while working two jobs.
I am approaching working for one master and that will be my online business. Not by my choice but never the less it might just give a kick in the right Direction! Yea!

The servant IS the master!
To serve is to be the master. Serve others unselfishly and you ARE the master!
...but i get what you're saying and my analogy is like comparing apples with oranges.
...my 2 cents :)
