You Can Build It, But Will They Come?

This is a response I wrote to someone wanting me to supply them with Long Tail Keywords. I thought it might be appropriate for anyone.

The first thing I want to point out that the old adages build it and they will come does not work with websites. You can build it and nobody comes and if you are relying on this valuable tool to bring in the business forget it. It's like having an electric drill with no power. Until you find an outlet to supply the electricity, the drill is useless.

I recommend some sort of consistency with color, font, and layout between the pages to make it flow. Next, you need something on your Home Page to capture viewers and potential customers. A signup for a monthly newsletter, a free report (There are tons of places to get reports if you don't want to write it yourself), a chance to win a Free Hour of consultation. You need to set up an Auto Responder like Aweber or Get Response, to capture email information and build a list. You also need to set up Google Analytics or some other means to track your traffic so you can see what kind of traffic your are getting and to which pages on your website.

Now, once all that is in place this is where your content becomes important, as you will see on the sheet I have attached to this note - using long tail keywords. I only know of two ways to drive free traffic to your website and that is by using quality content containing good keywords and using quality back links. By devoting your energy to these two things, you will eventually raise in the rankings on all the search engines. I can try using a few different keywords with your URL and see if you even rank in the top 20 pages of Google. You need to get to page 1 but it will take time and persistence.

That's the bad news. The good news is you can hire all of this done through Fiverr just as you hired me to write an article or to supply Long Tail Keywords. There are web designers who can merge your Blog with your main URL, there are people who can start building your back links, there are people to set up your Google Analytics and auto responders and anything else you may need.
