"Scraping" content from Wealthy Afliliate websites

I have seen this mentioned several times in both the legitimate and "spam" comments on my websites. ALSO in blogs On Wealthy Affiliate

People seem to think it's just OK to copy your original content without giving any credit to the original author.i.e. you.

Sorry guys, this is copright infrigement - what I write is mine by copright law.

I have taken to using the meta tag:

<meta name="copyright" content="Copyright (c) 2015 Glyn Cooper. All Rights Reserved." />

in the header of all of my pages, plus using the plugin:

"WP Content Copy Protection & No Right Click"

so it's harder for people to copy what I've written.

I would advise you all to take similar measures if you have not already done so.

Copyright is copyright whether done in a book or on the web and will remain that way!

The least we can do is protect ourselves the best we can!

And SUE if we can't!

Thanks for 2laurent4 for bringing this to my attention.

Hi Glyn,

There is little to nothing that you or anyone can do about people copying content and there is zero benefit to you to do so. Google and all of the major search engines know who the ORIGINAL content owner is because they find it on your site as soon as you publish it. Anyone who copies it is doing harm to their sites by having duplicate content on them and they will eventually lose all rankings because of it.

Over time, your content will get copied by bots (computes), spammers, and many other automated mechanisms out there. Fighting it would consume your entire day, everyday.

Rest easy knowing that content copied from your site is not going to benefit someone else if they publish it.

That said, if you had original works that are proprietary, like "training", or a publication for sale, then you may want to fight it.

To do so you simply need to contact the Domain's web host, or registrar and file a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) complaint and the content will be forced to be taken down if it is in-fact breaking your copyright.

All you need to do to protect your work is add:

"Copyright Yourdomain.com", somewhere on the page - generally in the footer.

Hope this helps ease your frustration, and also give you some guidance on what to do if you really need to fight something copied.

Carson

Great info Carson, thanks
J.

Thanks Carson for adding you input - seems easier than I thought!

Hi Carson. I didn't copy anything but I did use many of Kyle's suggestions. Even complete sentences. Is that OK? My ranking is still good in my early stages in here.

thank you for bringing this to my attention all the best

I just add this same plugin last week, not because I found any of my content copied but just out of fear that I one day might.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I'm glad for Carson's comment.

You can put "& copy ; http://yourwebsite.com" (without the quotes and spaces) ©yourwebsite.com into a footer text widget. It will then appear on all posts and pages. You don't need to mess with the HTML. ~Marion

Are you saying that if I start a new website and move some of my content from my old site to the new one, this is not allowed?

Hey Jazmin,

Moving content, or copying it, or publishing it more than once is not ideal. Google doesn't like to see the same content popping up on multiple sites unless the full site actually moves to a new domain.

For example a siterubix.com site moving to a domain you own. We implement special redirects that tell google the content has MOVED. That means you will not be penalized for duplicate content.

Carosn

Thanks Carson, but say I have a site with my own domain but want to move it to another domain I just purchased. Is that possible?

Hi jazminf, Carson answers this in his last comment to you above.

Hi Virgie, I appreciate your comment. But Carson said if I have a Siterubix.com they could redirect to my domain. I don't have a Siterubix domain. I have my own domains. So that was my question about transferring to my own domains. Not a problem though, I'll just start from scratch. Thank you Virgie:)

Oh, ok. I would think redirects would be necessary then.
