Why do we fail?

When I started on this journey, I made a commitment to myself. I promised myself that I would see this through. I promised myself that I would give my dream the effort that it deserved. Does any of this sound familiar?

So upon going premium, I hit the ground running and was a beast for about two months. I had created three websites and posted over 20,000 words. I was though 3 levels of training and I shot up the ranks within the community. Then the holidays and life started to get in the way. My efforts toward my online business went to the wayside.

Two months, is that what my dream was worth to me? Some of my old habits started to creep back into my life. I was watching television, instead of working on my business. I was doing more surfing than writing. I was reading about other people’s success rather than working on my own. Again, does any of this sound familiar?

Well, this morning I started to contemplate “Why do people fail at starting an online business?”

So my first thought was to check with the people at Wealthy Affiliate. And I found at least 5 blog posts titled “Why do people fail”. Some of them dated back to 2010, but they all had the same theme which is… People quit too soon.

And I agree people do quit too soon, but I wanted to get to the root cause. What would cause a person to simply quit on their dream? Not only that but in large numbers no less?

So here is what I came up with:

Number One: Lack of commitment (80%) – That’s right, I’m claiming that 80% of us will fail because we lack the commitment to succeed. A commitment to finish the training, a commitment to create content or a commitment to help others. In any event it is a lack of commitment, period.

So for the remaining 20 percent, I’m going to make an assumption. I’m going to assume that we all have a plan and that we all have the knowledge, because Wealthy Affiliate has provided those things for us.

Number Two: Lack of focus (15%) – So for those of us that have the commitment, I propose that 15% of us lack the ability to focus long enough to succeed. And our lack of focus leads to long periods of inactivity, minimal progress and decreased desire.

Number Three: Lack of Belief in our own abilities – My thoughts are that, if we have the commitment and we have the ability to focus, then the remainder of us, who will ultimately not succeed, simply give up on ourselves. A harsh reality I know, but a very important one.

So why might I fail? If I look at the causes that I have just outlined, I have to assume that the biggest reason that I might fail, is ME.
