I'm a copywriter and novelist living in the midlands of South Carolina. Most of my writing experience has been fiction and technical projects, but recently I've ventured into salesletters and writing for the web.
My passion is writing novels. However, my novels don't pay the bills. In fact, the cost of editing and design of my first novel, Some Glad Morning, was quite substantial and still met with a barrage of rejection letters from publishers. Fortunately, I was able to publish it myself on Amazon where it earns a modest return.
It is my hope that through WA I can consistently earn enough to self-publish my novels at the rate of at least one a year. This would change life radically for me. Beyond that, I intend to continually challenge myself to build an ever growing online business.
The power of the internet to create income has always fascinated me. I'm thrilled to be here at Wealthy Affiliate. It's my hope that WA will make it easier to master the technical stuff so I can focus on content creation.
Since joining WA, it's been my pleasure to unsubscribe from the legion of emails sent from affiliate marketing gurus.

Hi Gary,
I have a question for you--probably I'll get to in later lessons, but I'm thinking about it now, and well...you know how that goes. My first website has just been indexed, today. About an hour ago, actually. Now that it has been indexed, what can I do to get my Google rankings up? For example, I typed in "How To Make Creamy Cauliflower Soup", which is the title of one of my posts. It didn't come up on the search page; perhaps it will be found on a page farther along, but I searched through the first 10 pages and didn't find it. I'm sure there is a way to boost my rankings. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Kathy!
Thanks for getting in touch.
When your site is indexed, that is only the beginning. Getting indexed just means the search engines know your site exists. It will take several more weeks for the search engines to get to know your website better, to trust it and to properly rank your content.
The search engines move in mysterious ways and we just have to let them do their thing.
When you go through the training on using Google and Bing webmaster tools, you'll learn how to help things along a bit. At this point, the best thing you can do is create more content. The more content you have the more authority the search engines will give your site and the higher your posts will tend to rank.
You have to beat the search engines silly with content so they know for sure what your website is all about.
There is also something called the Google dance that happens. This is when your post moves up and down in the rankings. It happens. Remember, as you are adding content to your website, a lot of other people are too. The search engines are constantly evaluating what should go where and they don't always get it right.
The one thing you must not do is build backlinks or buy backlinks. In the past, people created backlinks to their websites to boost rankings. This worked for a few years, but then the search engines penalized websites that did this.
I recommend that you focus on creating more content to boost the authority of your website and get comments on your posts through the "Comment" area in SiteRubix.
I hope this helps,
Gary

Hi Gary,
I wish I had listened you... AWAI was a rip-off. I tried to join WA through your website before AWAI, but could not sign-in.
It gave a message, "free version is not allowed in your country." I thought WA is a scam and moved on to join AWAI.
Finally, in here after reading the excellent reviews.

Hey Gary,
I wasted $670 in their Infinite program. I was prepared to pay $300 every month to AWAI (after the initial $1250) if I had not stumbled on WA again.
Now, I am still trying to justify my AWAI purchase, and rationalizing that their study material is worth it!
Regards,
Gautam

Hi, Gautam!
There is some good information in the AWAI materials. It's not all bad.
I took a couple of their courses too. Don't beat yourself up over it. Lesson learned. Move on and focus on the opportunity before you now.
Most people who try to improve their finances usually fall into a few traps along the way. That doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. It does hurt to lose money, particularly when money is in short supply. I've been there.
I know of a woman who spent $3,600 for an AWAI weekend workshop and has never made a dime from it.
And I've met two WA members who lost over $200,000 to business partners.
Do read the AWAI material and learn from it. It will give you a foundation for writing persuasively.
In building your online business it's essential that you demonstrate integrity and trustworthiness. Ad copy methods as taught by AWAI are less productive than being genuine.
Building relationships with the people who visit our website is far more important and profitable than a one-off sale because of something clever we wrote.
I'm sure you will do well with Wealthy Affiliate.

Hi Gary,
I have been faithfully going through the lessons and completing the tasks assigned to each one. I have created my first website--no content yet--just at the beginning. After I created everything, I have decided that I don't like my domain name and I don't like my web page title. Is there a way to delete this website and begin over, or do I need to build my second free site? Thanks! Kathy

Hi, Kathy!
Go to SiteRubix Manager and click on your website as if you were logging in, but instead of logging in, click on "details" in the bottom right corner.
When the details page opens, scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll see a "delete this website" button. Delete and start over.
That should do it.

Hi, ShelGas!
It's a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for stopping by to chat.
Writing persuasively in invaluable online. However, much has changed and continues to change with copywriting. Many of the old methods no longer work as well as they once did.
People are becoming blind to ads and headlines. They've learned to ignore sales pitches, not to mention the attention span has shrunk to 8 seconds!
I think the trend in sales in more towards relationship and integrity. While the words we use are still important, it's essential not to be manipulative with our language, but instead to be as helpful and genuine as possible.
I worry that many good writers are ruined when they take copywriting courses because it makes their writing manipulative instead of helpful. This is actually counter-productive.
All the best,
Gary
