My 300th Blog - What should I say?

I realised when writing this blog that this will be my 300th blog here at WA.

So before anything, I'd just like to say a big "Thank you" to everyone who has read and interacted with my posts here over the last few years. I appreciate you spending a little time with me and my corner of the globe.

So, today's post is about:

The most powerful words you will ever say

I remember my Dad telling me something when I was a young girl that has stayed with me my whole life, even though I didn’t fully understand it at the time.

He said, “The words ‘I am’ are the most powerful words in the universe.”

At the time, I must have nodded politely, not really understanding what he meant, but now I know why he said that and I'm very grateful for him passing on his wisdom to me. It set me on a path that I continue to tread to this day.

What he meant was this:

Whatever comes after “I am…” starts to shape how we see ourselves. And what we see, we start to believe. What we believe, we start to act on. And what we act on… becomes our reality.

The subconscious mind is always listening, like the engine room of a large ship. It doesn’t argue. It doesn’t filter. It simply takes the orders on board that come down from the Captain (our own self-talk) and takes it as an instruction.

So when we say things like:

  • I’m terrible at this
  • I’ll never figure this out
  • I’m not cut out for success

…our subconscious mind quietly goes to work making sure that becomes true.

I wonder how many of us are really conscious of what we say to ourselves on a daily basis. Most of it is not conducive to living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life, and most of us treat ourselves in a way we wouldn't wish on our worst enemy!

But here’s the beautiful part — we can use the same power on purpose, and become more conscious of what we are telling the 'engine room' to do.

Try saying, out loud if you can:

  • I am learning and improving every day
  • I am capable of building a successful business
  • I am confident, creative and resourceful

It might feel a bit silly at first, but that’s okay. Do it anyway. Your subconscious doesn’t care if you feel silly — it just hears a clear instruction. So make sure it's an instruction you want.

Choose your own words, but choose carefully

Another pearl of wisdom my Dad passed on was the phrase "Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better." The quote is by Émile Coué, a French psychologist from the early 20th century. Nowadays, the list of people who advocate positive self-talk is endless, including Louise Hay, Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, and Tony Robbins

Again, I have carried these words with me for many years. That and "Everything is always working out for me", which I got from Esther and Jerry Hicks in their Abraham teachings.

Today, I have a simple new mantra that I repeat to myself often. It is:

I am happy

I am healthy

I am wealthy

I am wise

I like the rhythm of these four short sentences and find myself repeating them in the car, or in my head, as often as I can.

You can make up your own mantras in line with your own goals and desires.

Add in feelings

To make your words even more powerful, visualise yourself as having already achieved the outcome your desire and imagine how you will feel when you achieve it. Some people struggle with saying something they currently feel they don't have or are not, but a way to get around this is to ask yourself, "How will I feel when I am... healthy/wealthy/fitter? or whatever else you want. That helps you to put yourself into your future reality and can bypass some of the blocks you may have.

Another way to add weight to your words is to write them down. Studies show that people who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them than those who don't.

Speak yourself into being

Many people will say, "I will do anything to change my life" but ask them to do these simple self-talk mantras every day, and they often give up after a couple of tries. And therein lies the problem. But the solution starts very simply - with the words that you say, or do not say.

The words you speak to yourself are not throwaway thoughts. They are seeds.

So today, become conscious of what you are planting and plant only the ones you want to grow. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” So choose your “I am” wisely.

To all our success. We can do it.
