Looks like very familiar but since it is a close up picture of it, a lot of you couldn’t identify what really is this unless you see the following whole pictures below.

It’s the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Few months ago before the pandemic I was able to have a visit to one of the very nice place in the world.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for its nearly four-degree lean, the result of an unstable foundation. The tower is situated behind the Pisa Cathedral and is the third-oldest structure in the city's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), after the cathedral and the Pisa Baptistry.

The height of it is 55.86 metres (183.27 feet) from the ground on the low side and 56.67 metres (185.93 feet) on the high side. The width of the walls at the base is 2.44 m (8 ft 0.06 in). Its weight is estimated at 14,500 metric tons (16,000 short tons).[1] The tower has 296 or 294 steps; the sevent floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase.

The tower began to lean during construction in the 12th century, due to soft ground which could not properly support the structure's weight, and it worsened through the completion of construction in the 14th century. By 1990, the tilt had reached 5.5 degrees.[2][3][4] The structure was stabilized by remedial work between 1993 and 2001, which reduced the tilt to 3.97 degrees.[5]

The cathedral (name Santa Maria Assunta) is often
referred to as the Cathedral of Pisa. In Italian the church is called
“Duomo di Pisa” or more precisely “Il duomo di Santa Maria Assunta”. In
English, the name “Pisa Cathedral” is most often heard. The cathedral
square is called “Piazza dei Miracoli” in Italian.

Pisa Baptistery is located just at the back of the cathedral of pisa. It is 54.86 meters hight with a diameter of 34.13 meters. This is made of marble which is the most common material used in italian architecture. Its portal is facing the facade of the cathedral, it's so nice to sit on its very wide green grass area surrounding the whole place.

Have a nice day to all in WA family...

Hi Francisco,

This is an excellent synopsis! Pisa is obviously known for its tower but all the little cites in Italy have something exceptional to offer if you know where to look.

Back in 1978 I lived in Florence and took the train back and forth to Pisa. I was a biomedical engineering student at Brown University doing a specialty fellowship in artificial internal organs. Brown was developing artificial lung technology under a combined research grant with the University of Pisa.

After I completed my research there I studied medicine at the University of Rome, during which time I taught guitar at “Centro Musicale Roma” and played in the house band at the “Mississippi Jazz Club”. Four years later I returned to the states and finished my medical training through the Brown program.

I had a phenomenal time living in Florence and Rome! Thank You for bringing back these wonderful memories! 😊

Thanks Jeff....

You're very welcome!

I have a photo similar to that. I wanted to go up into the Leaning Tower of Pisa but the line was too long. I would love to go back.
