Memorial Day for a Veteran

Memorial Day for my Viet Nam Veteran is peaceful with a lot of war memories! If that sounds like a contradiction, so be it, it is the truth. The living room is cool and the television is softly playing while an older man watches. An older woman is on the computer in her lap working quietly, but steadily.

The Veteran and his wife have just enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared lovingly by their son-in-law. This is the way to treat a Veteran!

Travis is watching a 12-hour recap of the WWI, WWII, Korean War, Viet Nam War. It is on every year. I hope they do one for the latter Wars. They are all so vital to study!

This afternoon Travis will call the only friend still alive that was with him in Viet Nam. They have kept in touch for over fifty years!

Travis and I married in 1969 so we will celebrate our 50th Wedding Anninversary this year! God blessed us with Children and Grandchildren, and soon a Great-Granddaughter.

He worked for several companies while he learned his craft, and then he was a Superintendent for a company for thirty-three year Hs and retired.

This is a man who has lived and is living a succesful life!

Travis studied for his education and Graduated High School! Then before his Country called he went to Serve in the Army. Following this, Travis has so far a forty-nine year marriage, and two mature, successful, and loving children. The In-Laws are a Gift of God. Six Grandchildren that honor and love him.

Travis worked hard 10-hour days just as his men worked, and he came home as dirty as they did. He had the respect of his men and he knew the answers when he was asked.

Now, Travis is elderly and taking care of an invalid wife. He does this willingly and without complaint! I am very thankful for him and grateful to him!

God Bless and Good Luck!
Thank you,
Janice 2019 πŸ€—πŸŒ·

We were deeply moved by your post, Janice. We recall a line from the movie "Platoon" which has always stayed with us, delivered by the actor Keith David, speaking to the star, Charlie Sheen.
"All you got to do is make it outta here, and it's all gravy, every day, the rest of your life, gravy."

Thank you to your husband and all he and his friends went through and our hearts are filled with love and respect.

Enjoy the gravy, Travis!

Thank you.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY. A day of reflection. So many died, so many were affected for us to live the life we chose to live. Let us not forget these hero's and take the time to say, Thank you.
Michael

Yes, Michael, Travis will not speak about the losses except with his war friend. I don't think he wants to upset people.

Travis' Father talked a good bit about WWII and distressed the family, so he doesn't share much!

Travis always thanks Servicemen for their Service, and doesn't mention that he is a VietNam Vet!

Although when his cousin called yesterday to say he was giving Travis a VietNam Vet Cap, Travis was extremely pleased!

Thank you for your comment and we must pray for our Military today fighting all over this earth!

God Bless and Good Luck!
