CONSUMER OR CONTRIBITOR

Ok ask yourself this question am I a contributor or just a consumer? Why would I ask myself that question because in answering it you we come to a better understanding of who you are? What is a consumer this is a person who consumes everything and everyone in their path leaving nothing behind kind of like T-REX. On the other hand a contributor is someone who is always looking for a way to help others by investing their time, talents and resources.

The problem with being a consumer is the law of sowing and reaping. Why you may be asking well this law works two ways one as a farmer sows into the ground the seed of his choice, then he waits for the time of harvest so he can go and reap the harvest from what he showed. If he did not sow (contribute) there would be no harvest. Of course the farmer gets to be first to consume his harvest he worked for it.
If we are just consumers then we will eventually run it to a famine in our life where nothing seems to work and never realize what in the world is going on.

If I am a consumer then everything revolves around me, myself and I and that my friend is a very small world to leave in. I want you to know that there are plenty of consumers out in the world just looking to sink their fangs into you like a vampire and suck you dry of all your resources, so that when they finish with you will have gone from looking like a grape to a raisin. Then they will kick you to the curbside and look for their next victim.

Now a contributor on the other hand is someone everybody loves to be around and I know that’s what we are here at WA. We are looking to help people and in helping people we begin to reap a harvest like we have never seen before. A great way to help people at WA is to hang out at the live chat. Just the other day a fellow was having some network issues and I was there just saying welcome to WA to the new folks signing in and was able to help him with his network issues also. There was someone else there having problems with their website theme and I was able to help them out as well. It didn’t seem like much to me but to them I am sure they were glad someone gave them a helping hand.

The person who wrote this is long gone. I really wish he'd stayed here and learnt the valuable lessons taught here! I came across this post today trying to find old posts, and am adding this comment in hopes some will see it even for a short while.

Sadly, most people have no idea what a consumer is and how this designation actually affects them. A very high percentage of what we see as the "masses" are consumers.

His description of a consumer is a person who consumes everything in his path and replaces nothing, nor contributes anything back.

Kyle indicates that some people have a little bit of both attributes, that is, a bit of consumer and a bit of contributor. There's hope here!

What I see as a consumer, is a person who has employee mentality and in many cases, entitlement mentality. They work for a living and the idea of starting a business doesn't occur to them. They talk about celebrities much of the time and follow them. Economically, there is much, much more to what a consumer is and ties in with Western consumerism - that state of being which governs most people's lives.

The greatest freedom anyone can attain begins with realizing that there is such a thing as consumerism and its implications.

I know I won't get any replies to this comment because it is so old, but I enjoy finding folks who delve into this topic. These are the folks who have the chance of a lifetime to attain genuine freedom and to know what to do with it.

My hat goes off to the person who wrote this blog. It's a great lesson.

Daniel Euergetes.

a very insightful post flywood.....unfortunately we live in a world now based on consumerism and materialism which I believe makes people greedy and selfish....however there are a rare few that a willing to contribute without expecting anything in return....and this is what I have found within WA! I've only been here a few days and already I've experienced a very friendly and supportive community.

I hope I can learn as much as I can in order to help fellow WA members and newcomers also

thanks for the comment and Im sure you will do just fine never loos heart!

Wonderful post. I do agree that there are some people that consume, some people that contribute, and some people that do a bit of both. I think that it is OK to consume as long as you plan on contributing an equal or greater part.

I think that you will find many folks that think they are learning are really consumers. They are looking for a hand out, they are looking to "suck the grape dry" as you state and they are unwilling to do the work themselves. In doing so though, they spend as much time consuming as they could have been contributing and making some serious forward progress.

Again, awesome post.

thanks Kyle for the great comment!

I whole-heartedly agree with this. It is also a blessing to be with enrepreneurs and those that are prospective entrepreneurs.

Hey Flywood, good post! Refreshing to have people that are willing to help without selfish motives. I love contributing where I can. It always comes back to me. Plant a seed and reap a harvest!

David
