Authoring & Writing Content

I can't get my site authorship to work. But at least my fingerprints are getting a little deeper around the neck of my monitor... Doesn't help either...

This is what comes

Google authorship is funny because sometimes mine won't show up at all then at other times it only shows for certain posts. If you have followed the training here and done everything Kyle has told you to do then I think you should be fine. I do know that when you are making the connection with Google+ and your website you need to have the rel=author markup at the end of your G+ link that is in your profile on your website.

If you don't then your authorship won't show up and you will get an error when you check it in GWT rich snippets testing tool. I'm not sure what the hatom feed means though. Also from what I have learned about authorship it is totally up to Google if they want to show your picture in the SERPS or not.

Matt Cutts said that if you are publishing content regularly and you are an authority in your niche then they will display your picture. They did cut 10-15% of authorship a couple of months ago.

Its nice to have your picture show up but its not that big of a deal if it doesn't show up. Continue to keep writing quality content and Google will reward you for it. I hope this has helped you out Frank and if you need anymore help with this let me know and I will help you out.

HI Scott...
I followed the video Kyle made, went over it again several times to see if I missed something.

Found another video and followed that one too and did what he suggested. Got on GWT OK, it sees my site fine. Got on Analytics, it see's my site fine, but when I test it with Rich Snippet, it says I have lots of problems. Have tried many things, Googled it, no one seems to know what the hatom is. Or if they do they may as well be speaking Greek or something else I don't understand.

I want to continue with the course but I just hate moving on when I haven't got this straitened out yet. Well, may have no choice for now.

Guess I'll un-wrap my fingers from around my monitors neck and try to go on...
Thanks... >^..^<

As long as you have done everything it said to do in the videos then you should be fine. What you got to do is prove to Google that you deserve to have your picture in the SERPS. They only want authors that are an authority in their niche.

Just keep moving along in the course and try not to spend too much time with this task. It will only slow you down and prevent you from writing some good content on your website.

If you ever need any help with anything you can send me a PM anytime.
Scott

Yea, still working on that. Thanks

sorry I haven't figure it out on my stuff yet :-( Have you typed " authorship" into the search bar... I took a peek and there seems to be alot of tutorials and articles...

Everything Wordpress
Updated

I was stepping very gently in the editor, (so I thought) I tried to change something that shows on the footer, now WordPress won't come up. I can't even get the Admin Login to c

Thanks Wayne, I followed that link, put in a support ticket, they must have just completely deleted my footer, (cause I have none now) and I'm back online.

Now I can take the code I copied before I got into this mess and replace it the way it was before I started fooling with it.

Under the Build My Website tab there is a menu bar across the top with Support ticket.

You may be able to access the file using FTP. The login details are under the domain tab in Build My Website area. You should also search for child theme in the search bar - there's recent training on creating a child theme. You should always use a child theme to see if changes work before applying them :)

Ok, I cleared out my cache, but when I try to go to my site, I just get a white page. NO login, Nothing. I really made it mad... How would I get a support ticket?

sorry to here you're having problems, you can submit a support ticket here https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Did you try going all the way out, back in clearing your cache and browser then clicking on "Build My Website" or Websites and Hosting and trying to go in that way ? if you updated as you went , you should be able to go back to a previously saved time and get it back. If you are Premium you can send in a support ticket, if your aren't yet you can send a message to Kyle or Carson to see if they can help get you back up and running.

Thank you, I am a premium, but no, I didn't try backing all the way out. I tried to keep some of it open, but as soon as I made the changes and clicked save, the whole screen went white. I went to a different browser and tried to open my site and I got the white screen too.

I'll try that, I'll close all the way out, I wanted to close my browsers and run Spybot anyway. I'll do that in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion.

I published my privacy page, my About Me page, I went into the settings > General, Site title and tagline and added some stuff, but when I view the site, the title says, -

The front page is set as a default blog. Have you created a post yet? if not, then it has nothing to display and will tell you nothing was found.

WOO HOO!! It worked, (dancing something that looks like a drunken jig.) Got my first homepage posted and things look pretty cool for now. Later I'd like to make the background some kind of green to reflect herbs. But I can wait for now.

It will say either your latest posts or a static page. If your latest posts is checked, then this a blog roll. If you have it set to a static page, this means that your visitors will see the same page every time they come to your site. A blog roll simply means every time you publish a new post this will be displayed on your front page.

Hey Frank,
Do you have your site setup as a blog roll or a static page? To find out how your site is setup you can go to your reading settings. If your site is setup as a blog roll and you haven't published any posts yet then you will get a not found message.

I hope this helps and if you have anymore questions let me know man.

So far I have only published my "About Me" and my "Privacy Policy" but thought they would show up as a menu or something. They were done as pages. I have a draft that I'm working on to add to the pages. But I don't have anything as yet for a blog.

I guess that I assumed that since I went to Settings > General > Title > Tagline and added something there, that would show up on the home page in the title section. I thought that's what they said would happen in the video. But instead it says Not Found... Do I have to do something else to get it to do that?

I went to the Reading setting, It was a blog role, I changed it to a Static page for the moment. Still shows "Not Found on the title of the Homepage.

When you set the page as static, did you allocate a page you had already made to be the static page? If not it is still going to say it can't find a page. You do this by going to appearance - customise.

If you haven't published a post or set which page you want to use as a home page, then you will get a not found page until you publish a page or post. This is normal and you haven't done anything wrong.Your about me and privacy policy shouldn't be used as a home page.

After you publish something and have it set to either of these it should show up on your front page. Your site title and tagline is sometimes controlled by your theme. For my theme, it has a check box asking you if you want to display this or not.

Hi Frank,
You could do this by either putting it in your footer, or in the sidebar. You could also link to it from your privacy policy or contact page. It doesn't need to be in your top menu but just somewhere visible on your site. I hope this has helped you out and if you have anymore questions let me know and I would love to help you out.
Scott

Cool, Thanks Scott.
