Paying it Forward

Ok, so it is not morning where I am in this lovely world, but I am sure it is somewhere! :) I just love minions! :)

I wanted to share a little something that happened today. If you have read my bio, you know that I work as a veterans employment rep and I help veterans find jobs. I love to help people and being a veteran myself, helping other vets is my #1 passion and I take it very seriously.

Earlier this week, a veteran stopped by the office and dropped off his resume. I was not in the office at the time so I did not get to meet him yet. After looking at his resume, I realized his home of address was our local homeless shelter. My heart sank and I wanted to cry.

When someone is willing to step up and make the ultimate sacrifice to serve their country, there is NO way they should ever wind up homeless. Quite honestly, no one should ever be homeless, but when it is someone that has done so much for so many, it just hurts a little deeper.

I reviewed his resume a bit more and I saw he had a background in security. It so happened that I knew an employer looking for security guards that was paying $20/hr. The contact for this company was actually a 15 year Marine veteran that I got the job as head of security for this company back in November (my first success story of placing a veteran in a job as I just started the job in August.)

This Marine veteran was able to hire his own staff (it's a new company just getting off the ground..a medicinal marijuana growing facility to be exact). This being the case, he told me to send over resumes of any other veterans I have as they definitely want to hire veterans.

So yesterday I sent over this homeless veterans resume to him along with a couple other resumes. Later in the day he let me know that he was going to interview two of the veterans I sent him the resume for and one of them was my homeless veteran! I was so thrilled!

The other great thing that happened as I read his resume over a even more is that I realized he has skills in website development. I have been having a few issues with my site with speed that I can't seem to get figured out so when I called this veteran to tell him about the awesome job opportunity I have for him, I also asked him if he would be willing to help me with my website (told him I would treat him to lunch for helping me). He agreed and we are meeting tomorrow!

I see it as one veteran helping the other in many ways. Me getting him a job, him helping me with my website...and.....maybe a future wealthy affiliate referral, right? :)

But the biggest satisfaction I get out of this is that I may help another fellow veteran go from being homeless with no job, to a pretty darn good paying one and changing his life! Not to mention developing a new friendship.

My job is not just a job to me. If I did not need to have a job right now to pay the bills, what I do for a full time job I would do for free...that is how much I love it!

This community here at WA has been such a blessing and I am so thankful I found it and I know great things are in store for me in this coming year! But now I have a lot of homework to get done this weekend that was assigned by Kyle as part of being chosen for the Super Affiliate program so guess I better go get working on that!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you all for being so great!

I have been admiring Ariel's signature and wanting to know how she did it...but again, WA was there to teach me..all I had to do was search! :)

What an inspiring story, Fae!

Thank you! :)

You're welcome!

Thank you Fae for beautiful story.
Put you heart into your blogs like this and you will move other hearts in line with yours. Thanks, you are keeping the veteran team together.
Thanks to you I now have thought of another quote.

“Put you heart into your work and you will move other hearts in line with yours.” Tom Short.

Tom from the land down under.

Tom,

Thank you for the kind words! Just about anything I do in life I do with a lot of heart..is just who I am.

I like your quote...but may I suggest a little bit better sounding way of saying it?

"Put your heart into your work and you will bring other hearts to align with yours"

Again...just a suggestion :)

Best Wishes,

Fae

I put it in my quote folder for later but I will take your advice and change it as I say team work will always win over a champion any day.
Thanks for your team work, Tom.
some of my quotes, I will copy and paste to you. ...........

“Put you heart into your work and you will move other hearts in line with yours.” Tom Short.

"Put your heart into your work and you will bring other hearts to align with yours" Tom Short. I should add your Name. & Fea.

“A positive lifestyle should be your "goal," gold mine.” Tom Short.

“Dream big but Act Bigger.” Tom Short.

“We learn from the past to help grow the future.” Tom Short.

“Smile and show the whole World your inner beauty.” Tom Short.

“Helping others teachers us as well. No one person knows everything but a team knows most things.” Tom Short.
