Hi Folks,

There are many ways to move a website from another web host over to Wealthy Affiliate hosting. One of the easiest ways that you can do yourself in just a few minutes is to make use of your Free SiteRubix.com websites and a backup plugin called "UpdraftPlus".

Here are the steps:

1 - First thing is to create a temporary SiteRubix.com free site here at WA. You will install your website on this domain then make sure everything is working before moving your domain over.

Build a SiteRubix.com website here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/build

Don't worry about what theme you choose, or the name of your siterubix website. For organization it might be easiest to name the SiteRubix.com website "yourdomain.siterubix.com", but it's up to you.

2 - Install the UpdraftPlus backup plugin on your current website, as well as on your new SiteRubix.com site here at WA. This will allow you to backup your site to Google Drive, dropox, etc from your old web host. This plugin will also allow you to restore the site on your SiteRubix.com website.

Once you have installed the plugin, go ahead and back things up on your old web host. Backing them up to Google Drive or Dropbox might be easiest.

3 - Once you have the backup complete, you can then restore the site on your SiteRubix.com website. After restoring the website from the backup you can check your SiteRubix.com website and make sure that all is working as expected. You will then be all set to move your domain's DNS over to WA servers and replace your SiteRubix.com website with your real domain name.

Here are the instructions on moving your SiteRubix.com website over to your domain that you own:

Yes, you will be able to move your website from a different host and you will not loose any content.

Here are the instructions

What if my website is not wordpress? Can I still move it?

You probably could. You would have to create a wordpress website and then delete all of the content and FTP your non-wordpress site into the hosting area.

This would be easiest done with a premium site, since the free siterubix sites don't have FTP access.

I have downloaded and installed the UpdraftPlus plugin n both websites as directed. How then do I use it to backup my site to Google Drive, dropox, etc from my old web host and then restore it on my Siterubix website?

HI, I am not sure what your question is. I see you are a Premium Member. You can download and install Plugins in Wordpress and if you have your own domain you can move this to WA by following the training. Can you let me know where you had purchased your domain and I will send you the link to that specific training if available.

Great - they can take a while to transfer sometimes. Had you taken a backup copy of your website prior to changing the nameservers?

Is it possible to transfer a weebly site from ipage to WA?

My understanding is that it has to be an wordpress theme only. But you can put in a support ticket in the siterubix button.

Hi Carson, thanks for the info. I've followed the steps successfully except got stuck at the point where you restore the site info from dropbox to the siterubix.com site.

I get this message from within the Updraft plugin, and it means I can't authenticate dropbox from my siterubix site without getting a related error about php. "Warning: Your web server's PHP installation does not included a required module (mcrypt). Please contact your web hosting provider's support and ask for them to enable it."

Is this a setting with the siterubix hosting that can be fixed? Otherwise if it can't be fixed, does this mean we are not able to do the restore via dropbox?

Thanks

Hi Josie, do what I did click the link about training how to transfer to your own domain, you have your own domain so would be the same, get a pad and pen and write down the instruction and just follow them. It is simple Kyle simplifies every step.

Hello Carson.. How r u? I need help to transfer my old website (www.wfp4life.com ) to WA. I'm about to go viral with my company!! Philippines is getting in and my website can't contain my many sign ups. It already crashed the server 3 or 4 times. Not only Philippines but getting the whole world. This website is created for the less fortunate ones especially but it's for everyone for that matter. I will bring many here in WA. And I'm a person of my word. My members are loyal to me. Whatever that I think good for them, they will do. I get to love the WA Community. I feel at ease here!! Very helpful individuals. Finny has sent me the link on how to transfer my wfp4life website to here but I have no clue on how to transfer it. I don't want to ask help from my programmer!! Thank you Carson!!

Will moving a site from say hostgator to wa have a negative or positive impact on SEO...or will things basically be the same?

SEO won't change.. However, why pay hosting elsewhere when you have unlimited here? (If leaving on hostgator was a thought you had)
