Can somebody confirm this?
Is the Verisign contract will affect us here at Wealthy Affiliate?
Because for what I understand is that the price of domain names may go up and even could become a problem.
And there even a petition: StopThePriceIncreaseOf.com
What do you guys thinks about this and what does the future hold?

Hi Eric, good to meet you, and thanks for sharing, monopolies where ever they occur only mean one thing for consumers.
We are going to pay over the odds, for products or services.
Hopefully, there will be legislation to rain in this abnormally, how in today's internet environment, can one company have such a monopolistic position, it is hard to believe or define.
I am noticing that some providers are hydraulicking the renewal costs for domain names already, we need competition in the marketplace.
Perhaps in the light of this .com will be knocked off its perch.
I am comfortable with using other extensions, it is just another monopolistic platform that weighs in favor of the .com.
Time for a change, to finally enhance the user experience of the majority of internet users and not the profits of a few companies at the top.
I learned something new. Thank you.
Nice to meet you, Alex!
Thx for taking the time to share with me your views on that matter.
I know there are others extensions available on the market but how high the price increase will go up?
And do WA will keep their prices at the same rate they are?
I have learned something new today Eric, so I am reflecting at the moment.
It may be a case of getting in early and renewing those special domains out to there maximum time, allowed. I think it will bite in when it comes to renewal.
At the end of the day, it depends on how greedy Verisign is. I think there will be a groundswell of opposition if they go hard out on it.
Just a personal reflection, but I think that one will become much more selective when it comes to buying those spec domains.
Then again, just like the bricks and mortar housing market, it is all relative.
We will have to wait and see how it all pans out Eric.
It may not be that bad, this is an interesting read.

Isn't it interesting, how we can become complacent about something and it will change. Should have known domain names were too much of a bargain. Now someone wants to raise the price. Go figure. If they change, we gotta change with them, I guess; bite the bullet and pay the higher price. What else are we gonna do?
Well.. we can fight and tell them not to raise the price...that would be a good start....
