How to begin with ON-Page SEO for a Website from Scratch?

To begin with On-Page SEO for a website, we should begin with understanding the SEO cycle which will help us in learning the entire process of search engine optimization.

Here’s the detailed step-by-step guide on On-page SEO

1. Website Analysis & Reporting:

Getting your website analyzed is the initial phase of design processes dedicated to the study of the On-page, Off-page, backlinks, errors, history, infrastructure and other main factors of a given site.

You should work on your analytical skills as it will help you determine where and what you must put on your website that helps you to gain more traffic to your site. Hence, you have to first analyze your site so you’ll understand its current situation and to keep track of the growth.

2. Competitor Analysis:

Competitor Analysis will let you understand the current standings of your site in comparison with your competitors. In this research, you should target the top few sites which are on the top of Search Engine results.

Here, you will know how many external backlinks they have, the kind of keywords they use, what’s the content that’s driving traffic, what’s the keywords’ strategy, the site’s internal linking strategy, the type & number of images they use, content keywords, and the like.

There are a number of free SEO tools that are great for competitor analysis and to help SEO strategy. You can have a quick glance top SEO tools that are a must have.

3. Keywords Research

Keyword research is a process in SEO that involves choosing and zeroing in on a list of keyphrases to create the content around. We can research and find the actual search terms that people enter into search engines for a given query, and use those search terms as a targeted keyphrase for creating content. Search engines generally provide their own keyword research tool, which include details such as search volume, current trends, keyword variations, etc. Here is one powerful method of finding long-tail keywords using popular sites.

There are many free keyword research tools available and some of the ones I prefer are:

1. Google Keyword Planner

2. Ninja Search Combination Tool

3. WordTracker

4. Keyword Spy

5. Ubersuggest

4. Meta Tags

After Keyword Research you have to begin your work on Meta tags for your webpage.

Meta tags are a part of text that describes a page’s content to search engines. The Meta tags don’t appear on the webpage itself, but only in the page’s code. These are little content descriptors that tell search engines that what the web page is all about.

5. Keywords Placement

The Title Meta tag is one of the major relevancy signals for a search engine. Search engines use it to display the heading of a search result on SERP. The keyword should be placed smartly in the Title tag.

Use a keyword in H1 tag on your page and make sure it doesn’t look stuffed. You can use all H1 to H6 tags in your content and use Bold / Italic / Underline too as Google considers all these factors as a measure of user-friendliness and easy navigation of a webpage.

Always place your keyword in first 100 words of your page’s content for better performance of the keyword.

Though many are not totally in agreement with this, write a long, informative and amazing content for your website (of at least 1200 words), if the page is important and you really HAVE to rank it at the top. Writing high-quality content for a webpage is truly a great way of achieving natural traffic.

6. URL Structure

The URL structure must be kept simple and understandable, and it may well contain the keyword as well. Writing complex URLs for a page not only confuses search engines, but also makes less user-friendly for the users.

7. Image Optimization:

An image really speaks a thousand words so always put in some attractive and colorful images in between your content. Don’t forget to optimize your images by reducing the file size and by using Alt Tags.

Again, Alt tags are the tags which are not shown on a webpage. They are placed in the HTML code that tells the search engine what the image is about. It also helps in finding images via their name.

8. Internal Linking:

Internal links are URLs which share same domain and connect different pages of that particular site. All web pages that are interconnected calls are said to have Internal links.

This is one important aspect of On-page optimization. Internal links are links that navigate from one page of a domain to a different page on the same domain, providing relevant information. They are commonly used in main navigation. These types of links are useful in forming a structure of the website: They allow users to navigate and search engine bots to crawl the website easily. These links must be provided using appropriate anchor-texts for hyperlinks as they pass authority as well.

Wikipedia is the greatest example of internal linking structure.

9. External Linking

Content is said to be informative if it has all the information required, and if it’s not possible to put in all the required info, just provide a link from where the information is available. Search engines love a page that is resourceful and informative. For a successful blog or a website, you must use some friendly & informative links which helps the user to find his required information straight, but make sure you don’t deviate from the topic while doing so.

10. Have a Site Map for your Website

The Sitemap is an XML or HTML file that contains the entire list of your website’s URLs, forming a map of the website. This file will help Search Engines in discovering your webpages and allow them to easily crawl and index all your pages in the search engine.

11. Create a Robot.txt File:

The robots.txt or Robot exclusion protocol (REP) is a text file webmasters create to instruct search engine robots how to crawl and index pages on their website. It is also used for secure sensitive data from the crawler.

12. Google Analytics / Webmasters Integration

Having your site verified and registered at Google Webmasters Tools is said to ease your site’s indexing. Even if that’s not the case, these tools definitely provide valuable data which will help you to better optimize your website.

These are all some of the On Page SEO techniques to follow in order to optimize your website. But anything in excess is not good (such as over-stuffing the Keywords, etc.) and search engines may smell spam. Optimizing the page in the right proportions is the key to successful ON-Page SEO."

Thanks, Liz! My son is better! I must go with him in a few days in the clinic! Can you imagine that from a heatstroke they have put the worst diagnoses? He did have that cerebral edema and this was mistaken with cyst.
This edema caused him right hemiparesis because pressed nerve centres.
He is not fully healed, but I hope to be better in time with exercises, the problem is that he can not write quickly with his right hand.
I'm not fully back, I just open sometimes WA, I can't concentrate to write articles!

Oh wow Dorina! i pray he'll fully recover very soon ;-)
