Help with Donations Plug-in

Who has built a site and used a donations plug in that you can recommend? Its not the kind of plug in that you want to test by using since things can go horribly wrong from the get-go, so Im looking for some advise from people who already use one that they like. The contributions can go to paypal or get collected another way, what matters more to me is that its reliable and is simple for the contributors.
I was looking for a theme that had a contribution component built in but they are mainly configured for churches and non-profit organizations whereas my need is for an election site.
