I was thinking about "home business for new career seekers". Both terms can be found in the list provided by Kyle in the niche finding tutorial. But still I wonder if it is too broad.

There are a lot of different types of home businesses. I personally would narrow it down more, but it all depends on what you're looking to build.

When I picture a business like that, I think of a website that teaches you how to build all kinds of home businesses, from a blog or YouTube channel to an at-home barbershop. That's a lot of ground to cover, but you could do it.

One way you could narrow it down more would be to focus on online businesses for new career seekers, but if it were me I'd go even narrower.

You want to be able to show potential readers why they should read your blog over all the others. To do that, you should help them with one SPECIFIC thing. Something they can picture in their head.

A home business is a good start, but it could be anything. The same is true of online businesses. But showing people how to get their first 10 email subscribers, YouTube subscribers, etc?

That's something a new entrepreneur can picture and something they might want. In that case, your niche might be "new career seekers looking to build a successful YouTube channel" or "new career seekers looking to build an email marketing business."

Those might seem too specific, but they actually cover a ton of topics and products. Plus, a topic that specific will be much easier to rank for and will make a lasting impact on your audience.

@mattbachel, that is very helpful. This is a website in line with promoting wealthy affiliate so an online business is an obvious one. I also dont think email marketing is too specific and gives a lot of topics to be able to write about because most online business activities lead to building a list sooner or later. So yes I will definitely consider "new career seekers looking to build an email marketing business".

Or; "new career seekers looking to build an email list for their online business"?

Question; do we need to use Jaaxy/ keyword research to be certain about our niche? For instance for the phrase "new career seekers looking to build an email marketing business"? Or do we only use Jaaxy on an article basis, as long as it is related to our niche?

Affiliate marketing for beginners is good. You can always niche down later if you want.

That is a bit confusing. I thought I have to niche it down as much as possible when starting out. And after a while can go broader.

But if affiliate marketing for beginners (new career seekers) is narrow enough I will roll with that.

You should try to be as specific as possible. But it sounds to me like you're not entirely sure what direction to go in yet beyond affiliate marketing for beginners. So I suggest you start with that.

Then after you figure out a more specific topic within affiliate marketing that you enjoy writing about, you can focus on that.

Wasting time trying to pick the perfect niche isn't going to accomplish anything. Pick a topic you're excited to write 100 articles on and start writing.

I've been where you are, so I get it. There's a lot of niches out there and you don't want to waste your time with the wrong one.

I'm going to tell you what I wish someone had told me 10 years ago; the right niche is the one you would write about even if you weren't ever going to be paid for it.

In other words; Start a blog to make money as an affiliate marketer for those who like to start a new career (because they dont like the career they have now).

No, you're right. It is more specific. Well done.

But I think you should dig deeper.

Why do they want a new career?

People want to quit their jobs for all kinds of reasons.

Maybe they want a raise. Maybe they have kids and so they need to be able to make their own schedule so they can pick them up from school and attend any school events. Maybe they're sick of working in an office, and would rather work from anywhere they want.

(A good example of a website that targets that last group is http://workfromyourlaptop.com).

No matter what you decide, your niche is still going to be the same (affiliate marketing), but your brand position (the people you're trying to help/your target audience) becomes even smaller and that will help people remember you and relate to you.

I see the branding of workfromyourlaptop is about the laptop lifestyle. Not particularly aimed at people sick of working in an office. Or do I overlook something?

But I think I get it. I have to narrow down my target audience a bit more and reflect that in my (visual) branding, right?

I think I like to aim at people who like a lot of things / are passionate about a lot of things and dont know how to start a new career or business out of that. The multi passionate people. So at WA they learn they can blog about all their passions and make money using affiliate marketing.

As a career coach (and multi passionate myself) I have tests, courses and lots of content to aim to that particular group of people who also might be interested in creative blogging and could be flabbergasted learning that they could make a career out of it theirselves.

Two pieces of advice here:

1) don't overpromise. If you've never made a million dollars, don't tell people you'll help them make that, or they'll never trust you.

2) Once you've got it, make sure that everything you write relates to your brand promise in some way.

When looking at "home business for new career seekers" I think I can write a lot of articles about. And I know I will be still interested after 50 posts. I just wonder if it is too broad.

if you feel it is a broad subject - keep it but sub niche down within and concentrate on one part of it until you gain some traction and once you get noticed in that section then you can branch out into another part of it...

and learning about it more...
ther are a host of affiliate programs for hosting and email autoresponders...
break them down into sections and see what resonates with you...
and maybe select beginners, intermediate or experts - depending on your knowledge...
probably more scope for beginnners...
will be a competitive market but find your own angle - learn this with me and become successful...or this is how to start making a few bucks on the side....job takeover: learn internet marketing to free up your time....
write it all down rather than just in your head - it looks massive in your head - but reality may click in once you write it down...
maybe try mindmapping or use a spreadsheet to list sections and post ideas...

before I go into this a little bit more about my background; I am a generalist, that is my burden. For promoting WA I thought building a general internet marketing site using product launches to get traffic and then promoting WA is what I thought could work (and I saw some examples over the years; one more cup of coffee, the affiliate doctor).

For another niche site I like to use my profession; career development. I am a career coach.

I thought I could mary my profession (is my passion) with my general knowledge of the internet marketing industry (also my passion). Many years of experience there. More as a hobby with some minor successes. Nothing income replacing, that is why I am here.

The more I niche down into the internet marketing space the further I go from new career seekers and the less passionate I become. But I like to investigate how to combine passion with a smart business decision.

So now back to this; how narrow should it be. Is combining new career seekers with listbuilding narrow enough. Or is it even a niche?

I mean with is it even a niche, I think people are either searching for a new career or seeking for information on how to build a list. I dont think they do both at the same time. And looking at the searchers journey, I like to attract those that are looking to build a new career in the first place. From home online.

Or maybe I could target (existing) remote workers and give them the opportunity to become their own boss (using WA for instance).

So email marketing is not too narrow, I just wonder if people who are not satisfied with their current work think about building a list. I can imagine that they heard of starting an online business.

it has taken years to get to where it is now and has many writers....
which is the reason you start with a small niche...
i am sure if you talk to him thorugh here he will give you more advice on how he created his site and the time line...
you can also use the wayback machine ( archive.org ) to go back through time to see what it looked like - if available...
i am sure he started in a small niche and expanded over time.....
as you say maybe it is just terminology that is holding you up with your niche and selecting an audience...
work it through a bit more and it will drop out.....
but don't be too technical with the wordage - use plain speak....

You're welcome. Sorry to hear you are still having problems. To contact Kyle you can either leave a comment on his WA profile or send him a PM.

Here's how to send him a PM in case you don't know to do it.

1. Click the envelope icon on the top right hand corner of the WA dashboard
2. Click new message
3. Select Kyle as the recipient
4. Enter a title and category for your message
5. Enter your message
6. When your finished click send and then you should see a screen saying your message has bent sent

Kyle usually responds within a few hours depending on what day it is. It usually takes around 8 to 12 hours to get a response from him but it can take long if it's a weekend.

But mot of the time Kyle responds within a few hours and within 24 hours at the most. I hope this helps you and makes sense. I wish you good luck and I hope you get this sorted out soon. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need any further help. All the best to your success.

When I follow this procedure, after selecting Kyle, choosing the category (general question) and a topic (jaaxy) I get a list of articles about this topic. When my question is not answered I can only ask a public question. I cannot find a way to send a direct message to Kyle...

Sorry to hear you are still having issues. Here is what I did to contact Kyle.

1. Follow the same procedure as before but for the category you should choose Billing & Membership.

2. Type in your question and you will get a list of of articles but keep scrolling down past all of these articles and you will see a section that says can't find what you are looking for? Ask Kyle privately.

3. After that you will see a box where you can type your message and then click send. Your message will then be sent to Kyle and you will be notified when you get a reply.

This should work fine for you. I know it's a bit confusing as this happened to me when I contacted Kyle once but I figured out and did it in the way I described to you.

If you are still having issues after trying this you can leave a message on Kyle's WA profile instead. I hope this helps you and makes sense. I hope you get things sorted out soon. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need any further help. All the best to your success.
