Have no fear of updating
I have no fear of updating my plug-ins, however I have had a message to update my theme for several months now and posted the question noted at the end of this blog after several attempts to rectify the request.
Upon trying to do the infamous theme update, my website seemed to be compromised. I asked members within the community and tried several suggestions; nothing seemed to work. The good thing is that I saved my data so that my work would not be lost in the process.
**Note on saving website data:
Go to the back office of your site
Then go to Tools
Then export
Select all content
and last click the download button
This method will save your website data
Finally, when I thought all was lost, I tried again with a 2016 theme. The good news is that my website is now a trending site with a more professional look than before the update.
The lesson learned is that updating all portions of your site should be embraced as practical and necessary to ensure security measures; however, be prepared for the changes the updates may bring. Oh! and don't forget to save your work before embarking on this experience just in case some data is lost.
Below is how my menu looked on my first attempt. Thank you to all my WA family who responded to my question :):
I just updated my site and a second menu appeared underneath my top main menu and I can't delete it. I have tried in appearance (menu and customize)
. My site is: http://affiliatefollowers.com
Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

Below is the new menu.
In conclusion
Have no fear of updating themes or plug-in on your site. Updating will only make your site more attractive and secure.

Sometimes updating can do weird things. If you're backing up though, it will help protect you if needed. Most of the time, updating is very important to ensure the best security, features, etc.
