Someone please stop me from jumping ahead!

So I have decided to blog about what I am going through right now, since everything else feels messed up at the moment.

I am a perfectionist by nature, but have difficulty sticking with a process to get that vision I'm perfecting in my mind. This doesn't translate well.

Progress, Not Perfection

The more difficult thing to do right now is stick with the lessons in the course, and patiently follow them one by one. Because I wanted a quick fix this past weekend, I am hitting a brick wall and ending up with less than I started.

Quick Fixes Break Everything

In other words, I found a theme for my site that I loved, but because I wanted that "quick fix" without doing the hard process, I tried to import the theme's demos - so their beautiful design in their theme demo would magically translate to my site and it would be quicker and easier without having to work as hard on each section of the site myself.

Well it took several days of failure to realize that the theme company's suggested demo import plugin is not optimized for WP 5.2 and has not been updated on their end in 7 months. So I've essentially been wasting my time (although now I know a little more about how plugins work - or don't, lol!). I even attempted to downgrade my WP version and totally broke my site. Thanks to the Support team's quick response time, they have saved me more than once.

The Moral of the Story

• DON'T SKIP STEPS.
• DON'T JUMP AHEAD.
• BE PATIENT.
• BE WILLING TO LEARN (even if it seems slow)

One at a Time

Go through the course lessons, one at a time, because they will teach the things that we don't know yet and are trying to do ourselves. But if we don't learn the process, how will we get the successful outcome?

Stay the Course!

Okay, so I am going to stop screwing up my site on Site Builder, (try to) stop bothering the Support team having to delete my messed-up site yet again, and just upload ONE THEME with no fancy demo imports, and then LEAVE IT ALONE UNTIL I AM TOLD IN THE COURSE LESSONS EXACTLY WHAT TO DO TO BUILD EACH COMPONENT OF MY SITE. :)
